Another Fun Project

One of my favourite Pattern Designers, Sandra Walker from MMM Quilts allowed a group of quilters to try out her newest pattern, Heading North, which is scheduled for release Nov. 3, 2022.

I do enjoy paper piecing and really needed a project to kick start my sewing mojo so I was only too happy to jump on board.

I didn’t have a problem pulling fabrics since I had a favourite piece of fabric that I wanted for my focal fabric.

I did half of the blocks using traditional paper piecing method and half of them using the freezer paper method. I didn’t see any difference in the block results, but was thrilled with the results of both when I finished my quilt top. I made the throw size and it turned out as well as I’d hoped. After looking at the flimsy and double checking after Wendy noticed a reversal in a block, I discovered that I had flipped my block as well. I’ll get Jack out and fix it before I quilt this one.

Just needs to be quilted and bound and it will be ready to go to a new home…

After finishing the Throw sized quilt, I had enough of some of those fabrics left so I decided I needed to make a Baby Quilt as well, since I enjoyed making these blocks so much.

I managed to get the blocks pieced but didn’t get them assembled. We had morning appointments for both the Flu Shot and the new Covid booster. Once I got home the “normal” reaction (headache, chills, aches and exhaustion) set in and my bed was calling.

This is the link to Sandra’s post with all of the information on this fun project, and this is the direct link to the pattern. From now until Sunday, November 6th, Sandra will be offering the Heading North pattern at 30% off.

Both of these quilts are quick to make with Sandra’s great instructions. I’m sure I’ll be making them again and after seeing the other versions and colorways that were made, I have some ideas percolating.

Thank you Sandra for allowing us to preview your new pattern. Now I’m heading over to check Sandra’s post to see if I missed anything and check for the links to see the pretty quilts made by the other quilters.

So glad you stopped by to check my post! 😉 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. Hi Carol! I love the fabrics you chose, especially that lighter turquoise one. I would have never noticed a turned block! I’m glad you got your shots – you’re all set for the winter sick season. I got both of my shots on the same day – one in each arm. This was the first time the booster didn’t impact me! Woohoo – it was like a free found day as I had expected to spend it in bed. {{Hugs}} a bunch and take care of yourself. ~smile~ Roseanne

    1. Thank you Roseanne. I love the fabrics in these quilts and the pattern is too much fun! It’s funny to see the reaction from the different shots. The Covid one didn’t react, but the flu shot arm is very tender. I do have the usual headache, cold, tired reaction but don’t know which one caused it! It has been a sleeping lots, not doing much day but I’m good with that. 😉
