For The Love of Geese

Fall to me is a time to enjoy the colours, the crisp sounds of walking through the leaves, the sounds of the geese who have returned to their winter home here on our golf course, and getting ready to settle in for whatever winter brings us. I’m hoping for a few rainy days to help our firefighters but have been thrilled to get outside the past couple of days and breathe without choking on the smoke.

I had fun doing my project for this hop. It fell within my goal of working from my stash.

I pulled some treasured batik hsts and squares left from a previous project and made a total of 36 hsts which were trimmed to 3 1/2” square.

Some were cut offs and some were cut with my Accuquilt cutter.

I played with the layout wanting a design that reminds me of fall in our beautiful British Columbia mountains.

I played with the layout and came up with this:

You can just see a peek of the chevron design under some blocks for another project 🥴

Once I had the top pieced, I added a 1 1/2” border of leftover gold Stonehenge fabric and an outside 1 1/2” border of teal Stonehenge fabric. The top was sandwiched and quilted in the ditch with a tan Aurifil thread. I had cut some cute Fall leaves and acorns with my Accuquilt dies from more Batik scraps which I had added fusible interfacing to. Then I held my breathe and started stitching with a dense zig zag stitch on my New Home Janome with a beautiful ale green Aurifil thread. It was my first time using this machine for appliqué work and probably only my fifth time doing appliqué. My other machines had issues doing it!

I had wanted the effect of a heavy embroidery stitch. It’s not perfect, but I’m satisfied. 😄

For my backing I had a piece of fabric just the right size for this project.

This is the exact effect I wanted on my backing. 😄

I trimmed by top and batting carefully, but left my backing fabric 1 1/2” wider than the top. Then I folded the backing to 3/4” and then brought it to the front to make a self binding. Once it was stitched down, I buried my threads and called it a finish.

I’d like to thank Carla for organizing another fun hop, the incredible bloggers for all of the inspiration I have gathered from seeing everyone’s fall/autumn projects, and especially you, for stopping by and taking the time to read my blog.

I do hope you take some time this fall to fondle fabric, go for a walk in the leaves and smell some wood stoves burning. 😄 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  2. beautiful fabrics… love stonehenge! this looks like your landscape actually! Hooray for rain. We thought the 14″ of snow we got already in the mountains would put our fires out but it didn’t the smoke continues. That big sister! Adorable and her little eyebrows are so expressive. I want a tulle pink skirt like hers

    1. OMG LeeAnna you had 14” of snow already? Isn’t that early? Isn’t Clarke adorable. I am just mesmerized by her eyes and expressions and her mommy always has her dressed so well. I loved Stonehenge colours as well and save even little bits. Thank you for stopping by and commenting ☺️

  3. A lovely table runner. I love how you placed the leaves on the top. And yes, I will enjoy the Fall while it is here by smelling a fireplace, taking a walk and I do have 1 more camping trip planned.
