I’d like to thank Carla Henton of Creatin In The sticks for all of her work putting this hop together and all of the fantastic bloggers who have joined in. It’s been fun to hop along and enjoy everyone’s blogs.

When I first read of this blog, I was immediately taken back to memories, both as a child and then an adult travelling with my parents or children through the Columbia Icefields and seeing the glaciers. The range of color in the ice was amazing! I hadn’t seen them for 30 years and it was still clearly impressed on my memory.

The glacier you can just see the tip of feeds the Calgary, Alberta watershed.

I have long been a fan of log cabin quilts, but when surfing the internet one day I found a pattern by Sharla of Thistle Thicket Studio and fell in love. Once I put her pattern and my idea of colours together, the project for this Blog Hop was born!

I pulled out my scrap bin and started searching for just the right fabrics to remind me of glacier ice, and blue winter skies.

Let the strip piecing begin!

In between shovelling, feeding animals and teaching myself to operate my son’s snow plough, I was able to sit and sew.

There were a couple of other interruptions. My daughter came to the farm for a visit with her partner.

DH had a rough time dealing with the Alberta weather, but he was a trouper. He even managed to do some shovelling a couple of days and got the plough out for me one day.

Then my grandson and his sweet partner came for a visit another day to introduce me to Clarke, my newest great granddaughter.

After they left the sewing began in earnest.

I sewed!
And I sewed

And finally these beauties were done!

Had to wait until I got home and dealt with some stuff but finally I was able to start assembling the blocks!
It was coming together perfectly!

And then it was done. DH was very sweet about putting on his winter gear to go out and hold the top for me today so I could get a picture in between the snow flurries.

DH worries when the wind picked up a bit.

But we did get a nice picture of the flimsy. It will have to wait until my shoulder works well enough to quilt it, but I am so pleased with this Pattern. It was written by Sharla of Thistle Thicket Studio and finishes at 90” x 90” without borders. Don’t you just want to get out your scrap bins and make one for yourself?

Glacier Ice is done. I love the hills and valleys in this one!

If you do get the pattern and make one of these curvy log cabin quilts, I’m sure Sharla would love to see it.

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  5. As I read through your post and saw that stack of log cabins, I couldn’t even imagine how gorgeous the final quilt would be. Wowzers! Who would have thought that those blocks would end up looking like that…not me. You really took on the Winter Blue challenge with this one…love it! It looks so cold, but beautiful in your photos. Thanks for sharing!

  10. Hi Carol! Aww, baby Clarke is so precious. To hold her at two-days-old – isn’t that just the BEST thing ever?!! And your photo of the glacier – it gave me the chills it’s so gorgeous. Ooh-la-la, the end result of your inspiration is really fab. It amazes me every time that you can trick the eye to see a curve. What a great quilter holder you have, and a nice smile he gave us!! This is a beautiful quilt top, and I’m looking forward to seeing how you decide to quilt it. I have some ideas but love to see yours. ~smile~ Roseanne

    1. Thank you Roseanne. Wasn’t my quilt holder a sweetheart! This was a joy to put together and I have no idea how I will quilt it so suggestions would be great! My dsm is going to get a workout this year! 😄 Carol

  11. Wow, that really turned out nicely! It’s a wonderful scrappy blue, with all the lights and shadows of your glaciers. Well done! You look WAY too young to be a great grandma, but the proof is right there in your picture – an adorable little package. Your DH has a lovely smile and a great heart to serve and help you. Must be true love. =)

  14. Gorgeous quilt! It looks like it could be quite a “chore” to put together but so beautifull when done. Thanks for sharing! Cute baby!! I am looking forward to my first great grand soon. Have just finished her quilt.

  29. Your quilt is beautiful and really made me smile! I have the same pattern, and have made two of those. Both using reds, blues, greens, and browns. Scrappy of course, but this didn’t seem to make a dent in the stash…I gave one away, but the one we kept is a favorite of mine!

    1. I’ve been thinking of doing one in batiks with purple, pink, blue and cream for each of my granddaughters. Then I think a fall palette and then blue and brown. Oh it is an addictive pattern! But yes, the scrap bin doesn’t seem to be diminishing! 🥴 Carol
