My Day on the Foodie Blog Hop

Carla from Creatin’ In The Sticks came up with The Challenge:

“Create something to do with food. It could be anything from a quilt with a food fabric, to a tea cozy. A mug rug for coffee to an apron. A Corn and Beans Quilt Block to a drying rack for the kitchen. Maybe you are trying to raise money for a charity that supplies food. You decide! The theme is really your own interpretation, surprise us!”

I had decided that it was time to make a fun new apron for my grandson’s wife. She is always creating something fun in her kitchen and Clarke used to always help her Mommy. I pulled some bright, happy fabrics from my stash and just made a simple apron with two layers of pockets in the front. April is like me in one way. She always has her phone nearby in case a photo op occurs. With 8 pockets to choose from she should be able to keep it handy and safe while she is cooking! It was fun to play with some decorative stitching to finish the apron off.

What could be better than ladybugs for a new apron? Hopefully it will bring a smile to April’s face when she opens the parcel.

My decision for a second project was finalized when I was in Grand Prairie. our little Grace has now decided that she needs to be in the kitchen helping her Mom. She sits on the counter and tries to stir things and loves to dump ingredients in the bowl. It’s fun to watch her “helping”. I become obvious that a little bibbed apron might be handy, so I found some more prints (sweet peppers for our girl) and more yellow and after a bit of thinking created a reversible apron with crossover shoulder straps so it wouldn’t need to be tied.


Since Grace is only a year old, it might last her until she is 2 unless she has a huge broth spirt. I think it will give me time to find some cute new prints to make her next one with.

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

    1. Lianne the one with ladybugs is so easy. Just folded rectangles of fabric layered on top of another! The gardening one is a great idea. I’ll have to make some for my son and DIL for their farm. Thank you 😉

  7. Hi Carol! I’m so glad you found some inspiration for this blog hop! Aprons?!! I have been thinking about making some for my littles and maybe me, too. They are great helpers in the kitchen with momma, so I might as well get them properly attired. Right?! The many-pockets version makes the most sense for April – I never thought about having your phone nearby. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

    1. Hi Roseanne. Aprons have become a staple in my life. I use one with a couple of pockets when I’m sewing. I use one with lots of pockets when I’m playing with the longarm (phone, tissues, tweezers, scissors all need to be at hand). Thank you for your sweet comment. 😄

  8. your aprons are wonderful. perfect for helping in the kitchen. I made a full apron with those lady bugs for a friend for her daughter who wanted to help in the kitchen with mom. the apron has now been passed down to a sibling and another apron has been made for the oldest

  11. Oh coordinating aprons is perfect. Little Grace will be so excited to be dressed like mom too. My little grandie is almost 2 and all I hear is “I help, I help”. She loves being in the kitchen or cleaning with me. Now if only, they would stay that helpful as they grow up! hahahahahaha

    1. Thank you Joan. Grace’s sister, Clarke was your granddaughter’s same age and said the same thing. It’s fun watching Grace sitting on the counter helping. The apron really is necessary to keep our monkey clean. So glad you get time with your little. 😉

  16. That’s a great use of your stash – so bright and useful. Bib aprons are a necessity when it comes to little ones. Works better than the backwards worn shirt I had my little ones use!
