I Like; My May Adventures and June Projects

What a month last month was! Two blog hop projects done and posts written/published. A bad bout of the flu. An emergency trip out of town to help some dear friends. Temperamental machines and the ever present squirrel attacks!

I did manage a bit of knitting on top of the two hop projects.

My parcel has been shipped and received with 3 quilts going to Victoria’s Quilts Canada as my contribution to the H2H Quilt Challenge.

I had a wonderful conversation with my oldest son during which he put in a request that I make bean bag chairs for two of my granddaughters. That little squirrel has become a DrEAMI project. I had to dig around in the storage room to find the fabric I knew would work for our girls. It took me a couple of days to draft a pattern. Then fabrics were cut and I had to go out of town for an emergency need to prep my friend’s home for her release from hospital after having a heart attack.

Now I need to go dig in my storage room again for the zippers that I know are there. I will hopefully be sewing these together by the end of the week. Update one chair and liner is done; just one more to go! 😉

I am also working on finalizing my pattern for the Stitching Sunshine Blog Hop. I did do a sample project! But it’s not quite right yet. Just needs some tweaking before I do the final project and get my post written.. Update. This is a finish!

I’m getting to the point where I do have to order or shop some fabrics for backgrounds. I think I need to do an inventory of my fabrics. I keep “remembering” the perfect fabrics that I just knew I had in my stash. Then after looking in my cupboard (yes, my stash is limited to one small cupboard 😉) I realize that it had been used in another project. 🥴.

I like the fact that I did finally finish one of my UFO’s. Spring Into Summer is not only quilted but bound as well! I had fun doing stitch in the ditch, some ruler work and FMQ flowers and squiggly lines in the border. It has been so cloudy and rainy here I haven’t been able to get some good photos of the quilting on the top.

I used a leftover piece of leftover prewashed flannel for my backing and at least 6 different coloured Aurifil threads in my quilting. The batting was the last of my Hobbs batting roll.

Last week we were out of town in order for DH to have a colonoscopy. It meant I had to find a way to keep occupied for 3 – 4 hours since visitors are still not allowed in our hospitals. So what else could I do, masked up, but go to the bakery and my favourite LQS to see if they were open.

Unfortunately the bakery was and I had to bring a box of goodies home. 🥴.

Then I held my breathe as I walked to the door at Allan’s Sewing Machine and Repair. He was there! Unfortunately he is not open yet. With the regulations for re-opening, he has to do a fairly major renovation putting a doorway in to the wall he has pegboard displays on. It means there will be an inside door to his classroom space which will allow for one way in and a separate exit. It’s really strange because the bakery only has one door. 🤔. To shop for anything, I had to view it on my phone and then text Allan my order. NOT the same wonderful experience of actually fondling the fabric! I’m not quite sure how it happened, but some lighter batiks came home with me which just might be the background for the quilt for my bed.

Now I just need to decide; a curvy log cabin with a range of scrappy batiks, or a queen size version of Boxed, or perhaps something completely different?

I’m not sure how you all are doing, but I have been having a rough time of it these past few weeks. I am back on track getting my 15 minutes of sewing time (which I had actually increased to 30 minutes a day as my personal goal) every day but 1 in the past 2 weeks thanks to the coaxing and encouragement of a few of my on line quilty friends. 😊

The hardest thing is to not get caught up in the hours of news watching along with DH. Not only is the news of each horrific death or abuse at the hands of the law enforcement officers in both Canada and America heartbreaking, but watching the statistics on the increasing Covid 19 victims in so many Provinces and States is actually making me ill. How can so many people be going out without masks and then not social distancing? I must be missing something because I just don’t understand.

I like knowing that DH and myself are still staying home for the most part unless there are doctors appointments, treatments, tests, prescriptions or groceries to be picked up. Getting to go to the bakery and LQS was really unusual, and not as enjoyable as it used to be. I’m guessing someday it will be, just not right now. 😏

In the meantime I will continue to like the facts that I live my life in my little corner of the world, finding inspiration in the hope that change is coming, that I am so well connected in my online world of family, friends and so many incredible bloggers that share their quilty goodness with all of us.

I will close my post with one of my biggest loves and sources of joy. Can you believe Clarke is 6 months old and loves her toes and is creepy crawling already?
