Sunday Summary #223

Hello and can I just say I’m so glad it’s November! Not that you’d know it from the weather here. That dusting of snow is gone off my mountain ridges and the golf course is busy! I’ve had to ask our Greenskeeper to come in and get more power carts out and fill them all with fuel! It’s been crazy busy on the course, but I did get to enjoy seeing these beauties. Not only were they nibbling on the grass and branches, they managed to enjoy a couple of apples that had fallen on the ground. Our golf course was built on land that had been donated. Most of the land was an apple orchard and a portion was a private landing strip. I do know the apples are all heirloom strains. We have a horticulturalist coming in early spring to ascertain which strains we have and to properly trim the tress so we can maintain them and keep another part of our 60 year old history intact.

My week was obviously busy with the Golf Club, preparing for Sunday’s AGM and the usual trips to town for groceries, meds and DH’s appointments, but I did manage to get my stitching time every day (I’m sure unstitching time counts, right?).

My Last To-Do Goals:

Now it’s time to see how I did with my goals for the week:

🔲 Keep making bags for the Christmas Hampers/Party that I have kitted up. Everything is cut and some stitching happened! 😁

🔲 Get the needlepoint stitched so I can decide how to finish it. The last bit of the final thread just needs doing! 😁

So close to a finish; the last few white stitches and then the accent stitches to be done. 😁

✅ Finish the quilt top using the leftover bits of blocks I have from Denise’s Treasure boxes she sent of goodies; leftovers and fabric pieces. This was a difficult project for me. Just letting the locks come together in random scrappy disarray was hard. Usually I plan which colours will sit beside each other and being random doesn’t come easy. 😉 The flimsy is finished (unless I decide to add borders🤔) The more I look at it; the more this quilt top is telling me it needs borders. What do you think?

🔲 Finish making my quilt top from my crumb blocks and leftover panel blocks No progress this week. 😢

🔲 Finish the blocks for the quilt for C’s friend in Nova Scotia. Made some progress with the extra blocks I’m making. Now I just need to see if my plan works and my quilting math is correct! 😁

🔲 Keep working on my project for the Christmas Cookie Exchange Blog Hop in December. It’s coming along and I’m happy with it. 😁

🔲 Finish more blocks for the memory quilts No progress 😢

🔲 If I finish any of the above projects I will start another of the projects from my project bins. I wasn’t able to start anything new since I’ve pretty much decided the finished flimsy isn’t finished after all. 😢

Keep Samantha and her squirrel buddies from distracting me again or sidetracking me from my list. 🐿️🐿️🐿️ I managed to keep these squirrels under control but it was really hard since I spent a bit of time surfing the web in between customers and phone calls in the Pro Shop! 😉

This Week’s goals:

This week should be a better week since I will be able to take my sewing machine to work with me at the Golf Club. The restaurant will be going on winter hours (Friday, Saturday and Sunday only) so I can use a dining table to play on. I also will only have 1 meeting with our new Board of Directors at the Golf Club to set up committees and meeting schedules and a Board meeting for my Guild. DH doesn’t even have any appointments this week! Just have to hope that switching to Daylight Savings Time doesn’t mess me up 🤞🏻

  1. Keep making some bags for the Christmas Hamper/Dinner event in December from everything I have kitted up.
  2. Get the needlepoint stitched so I can decide how to finish it.
  3. Finish the quilt top using the leftover bits of blocks I have from Denise’s Treasure boxes she sent of goodies; leftovers and fabric pieces.
  4. Finish making my quilt top from my crumb blocks and leftover panel blocks.
  5. Finish the blocks for the quilt for C’s friend in Nova Scotia.
  6. Keep working on my project for the Christmas Cookie Exchange Blog Hop in December. Carol from Just Let Me Quilt is stepping up to host this one
  7. Finish more blocks for the memory quilts
  8. If I finish any of the above projects I will start another of the projects from my project bins.
  9. Keep Samantha and her squirrel buddies from distracting me again or sidetracking me from my list. 🐿️🐿️🐿️

Stitchin’ Time

Kate from Life in Pieces hosts a weekly linky party to help us keep to our goals of stitching every day!

I’m trying for at least 30 minutes a day this year and 1 hour at the end of the week to tidy up and deal with my scraps. 🤔

  • January 4/31
  • February 2/28
  • March 10/31
  • April 12/30
  • May 29/31
  • June 28/30
  • July 31/31
  • August 30/30
  • September 26/30
  • October 25/31
  • November 1/30
  • this week 7/7
  • Previous Total: 200/299
  • Total: 207/306
  • Percentage = 67.65 %

I was able to get my stitching time in again this week. I hope you all get to set and keep your goals for your Stitching Time and join Kate. 😁

Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash. If I can plan trips to the studio I expect my stash to be reduced terrifically when I start making backings for all of the quilt tops I’ve got to do. 🤩

  • Fabric Used: 0 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Previous Balance: 15 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this year: 9 yards
  • Balance in stash to use this year: 90 yards

* my goal is to lessen my stash by 200 50 yards this year but realistically I’ll be happy with whatever I manage. I’m lessening my goal since I’ve been using mostly scraps, leftover bits and donated treasures and since I’ll not be getting to use my longarm my backing fabric usage will be minimal.😉

* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!

Memories of Quilts From the Past

Leftover panel pieces were used to make this throw quilt which was donated to the Christmas Hamper/dinner project for our local Food Bank.

Design Wall Mondays

Judy, at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts, hosts a linky party for “Design Wall Mondays” every week.

I’m including some photos of my current WIPs;

My UFO and WIP List

Last but not least I have to update my UFO Speadsheet and then try keeping it up to date and so help with my accountability now that I have gone through everything in my storage room and sewing space. I think I’ve given up on getting this updated. I might just wait and start fresh next year. 🫤.

I use the spreadsheet that Quilting Gail shared several years ago, but I do need to update it!

This week I’ll even manage to link up with our To-Do Tuesday and the other parties I enjoy.

In closing I’d like to thank you for visiting, for joining the To Do Tuesday linky party, for sharing the party link, and above all for being part of my quilting world. 🤗 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. Snow already? Oh my! It’s gotten cold here — almost enough for sweaters under your jacket but I’m not ready for snow at all! The history of your golf course sounds wonderful and how cool to be able to harvest snacks as you walk the holes. I love the scrap quilt but then I’m all for “kitchen-sink scrappy. I could see adding a border to corral the chaos but I could also see just going iwth a strong/dark binding to end it. I guess it depends on how big you want it to be overall. Had to laugh at the comic at the end: I’ve done that with my cell phone — while I’m talking on it, LOL!! Ahhh, those “senior moments”!!

    1. Hi Vivian. Thank you for your lovely comment. I’m shocked at not having snow because in my part of British Columbia we usually have snow by my birthday (Oct.15) and for sure by Halloween so the littles wear costumes over snowsuits. I love your idea of the dark binding. This quilt is destined for the Food bank’s Christmas party/dinner. They have donated handmade items that the kids can choose and wrap so their Mum or Dad (or both) can have a present. I usually try to make them a large throw size. I love the senior moments. It’s my favourite excuse (it’s an old timers moment) when I have an oops. 😆

  2. It has been a crazy fall, warmer then expected way into the season. I called to have them come check our furnaces before we turned them on and the scheduler told me that they were still working on air conditioners and weren’t accepting any furnace checks currently. She took my name and said they’d schedule me in when they started that service. You’ve been doing well on getting to some of your goals, especially your stitching goals. Hopefully you can get some significant sewing time in at the club.

    1. Thank you Donna. Please don’t say that about the Treasure Boxes, but I fear you may be right. There are 2 bins of treasures just waiting to refill those project bins. 😵‍💫
