Sunday Summary #171

It’s been another week of smoke filled skies, and planes, helicopters and firefighters doing their jobs trying to fight back the wildfires.

I have spent most of my days helping my community by being at the Resiliency Center, which is providing clean, cool air, wifi and tech support with trying to navigate the nightmare of the ECS on line Services. Most people are finding it less stressful to make the hours drive to the center in town. We hosted the food bank since the town of Slocan is still evacuated. It’s incredible to see the additional days having Stores, local growers and community members continuing to bring in donations to help the evacuees and low income members of our community. We are able to provide dairy, produce, some pet food, basic sanitary needs and plenty of hugs.

Each day the information Officers from BC Wildfire Services come in to provide the most important thing to our evacuees; up to date information on the progress they are making and how the fire is spreading. Two of the largest fires have joined and at this point the Evacuees are being told it could be 3 or more weeks before they can get back in to their homes. It all depends on the weather and how soon they can get roads in and out of town open on both sides. All I know is we are all hoping for rain and so far there is none in the forecast for two weeks.

My Last To-Do Goals:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and embroidery sampler as time and my eyesight allow. No progress. 😢

2. Try to finish binding the four now five quilts. I’m down to only 3” left on the quilt I take with me to the center. 🤗

3. Finish the memory quilts for my son and granddaughters from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters. I’ve made no progress 😢

One down; 3 or 4 to go! 🤣

4. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise and the Tula Pink scraps from Monique, with some additions from my stash, to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty. I have not got it in me to do anything more than continue making the crumb blocks but I now have 37 of them made 😁

5. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿. 😁 Samantha kept herself and her squirrel buddies under control this week!

This Week’s goals:

Now it’s time for my new To Do Tuesday List:

2. Try to finish binding the four now five quilts. 😉

3. Finish the memory quilts for my son, granddaughters and Clarke’s family from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters and our Clarke’s clothing.

4. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise, with some additions from my stash, to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty.

5. Keep making crumb blocks until I can start urging them for my next quilt.

6. Start planning my project for another blog hop.

Stitchin’ Time

Kate from Life in Pieces hosts a weekly linky party to help us keep to our goals of stitching every day.

I’m trying for at least 30 minutes a day this year and 1 hour at the end of the week to tidy up and deal with my scraps. I wasn’t really off to a good start, but it is getting better as things settle down in my real life time and commitments lessen. 🤔

  • January 21/31
  • February 27/29
  • March 27/31
  • April 20/30
  • May 26/31
  • June 22/30
  • July 31/31
  • August 3/3
  • this week 7/7
  • Previous Total 170/212
  • Total: 177/212
  • Percentage = 83.5 %

I hope you all get to set and keep your goals for your Stitching Time and join Kate. 😁

Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash. If I can plan a trip to the studio I expect my stash to be reduced terrifically when I start making backings for all of the quilt tops I’ve got to do. 😁

  • Fabric Used: 0 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Previous Balance: 63 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this year: 0 yards
  • Balance in stash to use this year: 63 yards

* my goal is to lessen my stash by 100 yards this year. I haven’t managed to actually figure out how much fabric I really have in my stash, but I have reduced my stash these past few years and only purchase fabric if I need it for a particular project. If I do purchase fabric I add it to my Balance in stash to use this year in order to continue reducing my stash. 😉

* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!

Design Wall Mondays

Judy, at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts, hosts a linky party for “Design Wall Mondays” every week.

I’m including some photos of my project bins filled some of the fun little blocks, bits and pieces and fabric that Denise sent to me, and my orphan blocks and fabric from my stash, that I’m working playing with to come up with some new quilts for an upcoming charity event;

PHD in 2024

This year you can join the fun and challenge at Ms P Designs USA 😉

Thank you for stopping by and reading my post. Your comments make my day and I do reply to each one. 😉 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. I don’t think you need to worry about any quilt projects right now, Carol. You are doing so much for your local community. Really neat to see how people pull together through tough things. We hve had so much rain here, I wish I could send it all up to you!

    1. Thank you Kathleen. I’m trying to keep to my “normal” routine as much as possible. What do quilters do when stressed? We put a threaded needle to fabric in any way we can. Fabric therapy helps. 🤗

    1. Thank you Deb. I’m hoping things are better in your part of our country. My daughter says she’s been getting smoke but I’m guessing it’s Jasper or Revelstoke for her. Stay safe 🤗

      1. We’ve had a bit of smoke from Jasper. That fire just hurt our hearts so much. We will all hope for better days ahead.

  2. That you manage to get anything done on your to do list is pretty extraordinary! I hope the fire fighters continue to make progress. For once wishing the weather forecasters are wrong and you get some rain soon.

    1. Thanks Kate. We had dry electrical storms and high winds last night but according to the BCWFS personnel today no new ignitions in our area. The long range forecast show the possibility of rain in 10 days 🙏🤗
