Sunday Summary #170

On Friday my stepson was ordered from his home because of the wildfires. His town, Slocan is 7 km from our home, but so far we are still not on evacuation alert. I have spent most days since last Monday volunteering at the Resiliency Centre which provides filtered air, wifi and telephone services to our community. We have been providing assistance with registering on line for Emergency Assistance and with the assistance of community donations, have been able to provide breakfast, lunch and healthy snacks and beverages. We have a tv set up for kids to watch movies so Mom and Dad can take care of business and arrange shelter. Since Slocan has been evacuated the food bank will set up at our Center this week.

Those trucks just keep rolling with more heroes coming to take care of our community ❤️

I am so proud of the people in the valley stepping up to help each other through these times.

When I arrived home on Sunday I discovered a friend had stopped by to set up an air filter for DH and I. It was such a blessing and so appreciated. You never realize how much better you can sleep when you have clean air. 🤗

My Last To-Do Goals:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and embroidery sampler as time and my eyesight allow. No progress. 😢

2. Try to finish binding the four now five quilts. I’ve been taking a quilt with me to the centre and manage a few minutes of stitching here and there. I only have 6 more inches of binding to finally be able to claim a finish. It seems to relax people to see me stitching while I’m helping with information, directions or just listening to people voice their fears and concerns. 🤗

3. Finish the memory quilts for my son and granddaughters from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters. I’ve made no progress 😢

One down; 3 or 4 to go! 🤣

4. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise and the Tula Pink scraps from Monique, with some additions from my stash, to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty. I have made it a new habit to work on my crumb blocks when I get home from the center and am making dinner. Then I try to get back after cleaning up to sew some more. These crumb blocks are very addicting. I should be able to start cutting the pieces for my next quilt 😁

5. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿. 😁 Samantha kept herself and her squirrel buddies under control this week!

This Week’s goals:

Now it’s time for my new To Do Tuesday List:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and embroidery sampler as time and my eyesight allow.

2. Try to finish binding the four now five quilts. 😉

3. Finish the memory quilts for my son, granddaughters and Clarke’s family from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters and our Clarke’s clothing.

4. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise, with some additions from my stash, to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty.

5. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿

Stitchin’ Time

Kate from Life in Pieces hosts a weekly linky party to help us keep to our goals of stitching every day.

I’m trying for at least 30 minutes a day this year and 1 hour at the end of the week to tidy up and deal with my scraps. I wasn’t really off to a good start, but it is getting better as things settle down in my real life time and commitments lessen. 🤔

  • January 21/31
  • February 27/29
  • March 27/31
  • April 20/30
  • May 26/31
  • June 22/30
  • July 27/27
  • this week 7/7
  • Previous Total 163/202
  • Total: 170/212
  • Percentage = 80.69 %

I hope you all get to set and keep your goals for your Stitching Time and join Kate. 😁

Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash. If I can plan a trip to the studio I expect my stash to be reduced terrifically when I start making backings for all of the quilt tops I’ve got to do. 😁

  • Fabric Used: 0 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Previous Balance: 63 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this year: 0 yards
  • Balance in stash to use this year: 63 yards

* my goal is to lessen my stash by 100 yards this year. I haven’t managed to actually figure out how much fabric I really have in my stash, but I have reduced my stash these past few years and only purchase fabric if I need it for a particular project. If I do purchase fabric I add it to my Balance in stash to use this year in order to continue reducing my stash. 😉

* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!

Design Wall Mondays

Judy, at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts, hosts a linky party for “Design Wall Mondays” every week.

I’m including some photos of my project bins filled some of the fun little blocks, bits and pieces and fabric that Denise sent to me, and my orphan blocks and fabric from my stash, that I’m working playing with to come up with some new quilts for an upcoming charity event;

PHD in 2024

This year you can join the fun and challenge at Ms P Designs USA 😉

Thank you for stopping by and reading my post. Your comments make my day and I do reply to each one. 😉 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. The glow of that fire looks a bit too close. Sure hope your son doesn’t lose his home, but glad he was able to get out. You have been so busy helping, I’m so very glad someone stopped by to help you with the air filter. I’m sure it has made things much better for both of you. Stay safe!

    1. Thank you Wendy. The air filter was such a surprise but a perfect example of how so many people in this valley help without being asked. Have a great week and try your best stay out of the smoke if it’s reached you from any of the wildfires in our countries. 🤗

  2. Fingers crossed the fire fighters can gain a bit on the fire and get a bit of it contained. So glad someone was able to get you an air filter. You stitch well under pressure, that’s a skill. Stay safe.

  3. So very sorry to hear about your son & his family’s evacuation. What a gift to have a friend stop by with a filter. You are amazing..giving so much time and comfort. Glad you squeeze in a little sewing/me time to feed your soul. Prayers for those in harm’s way and for an end to these fires.

    1. Thank you Kathleen. I am so lucky to be living in a community that does step up and we all help each other in times of crisis. Fabric therapy is something we do indulge in when life is stressful. Your prayers are very appreciated. 🤗
