Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash.

  • Fabric Used: 5 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Previous Balance: 51yards
  • Fabric Purchased this year: 3 yards
  • Balance in stash to use this year: 46 yards

* my goal is to lessen my stash by 100 yards this year. I haven’t managed to actually figure out how much fabric I really have in my stash, but I have reduced my stash these past few years and really only purchase fabric if I need it for a particular project. If I do purchase fabric I add it to my Balance in stash to use this year in order to continue reducing my stash. 😉

* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!

PHD in 2023

Quilting Gail is hosting her PHD in 2023 Challenge again this year. 😉

Thank you my friends for all of your lovely comments, prayers and well wishes for D. Her fall on the 31st caused a brain bleed and concussion. While doing a second CAT Scan they discovered an issue in her throat. Apparently it’s fairly common in older women who have been intubated. If you had surgery in the 60’s it was normal procedure for patients to be intubated during surgery. This can result in a web type of growth around your windpipe. The doctors had assumed that D’s shortness of breathe was related to her AFib. She actually had the growth in her throat which was so thick around her windpipe that she was only getting 10% of the normal oxygen flow. The surgery was done through her throat, resulting in a sore throat and difficulty talking. Two hours post surgery we were walking the circle around the unit twice. Before the surgery she wasn’t able to walk from the couch to the kitchen counter without losing her breathe. The morning of her discharge from hospital we walked the unit 4 times on two separate occasions. She did have to stop because she was dizzy from the head injuries and her leg muscles were sore. Once home she was walking the route 6 times around the deck and did that 4 times a day. Miraculous difference in her life? I think so.

I came home Friday night as DH has a test/procedure on Monday at the hospital and I had to go to town on Saturday to get prescriptions and supplies for the test. Poor man is not having a good weekend, but the consoling fact is that we have a week of much needed rain here in my part of British Columbia, which can only help with the wildfires, and DH wasn’t planning on being out playing golf every day.

Thank you for stopping by and reading my post. Your comments make my day and I do reply to each one. 😉 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. Oh Carol I had to go back to other posts to catch up and see what had happened to your dear friend. I am so glad she is recovering and breathing better! You are such a good friend to her. I was intubated in the 1980s but have never had any breathing issues. I did have scar tissue cause complications years after though. It is so fascinating what old surgeries can do to one’s body. I love your new haircut! Your long hair looks so much like my length. Mine is longer than I’ve had it in decades, and I just cut 2 inches off it. My hairdresser will cry when she sees it at the end of the month. 😉
Wishing your DH best of luck with his test today.
I laughed out loud at you getting distracted looking for a backing. 😀

    1. Hi Linda. Isn’t it incredible that D can breathe now? It’s a nasty way to have good results but so good to see her walking at a normal pace. The new haircut was a necessity since the weight of it was increasing migraines. Can you really imagine me ever not getting distracted? 🤗

  2. I’m sure D feels like a different person after that surgery! I’m so glad they found that issue during surgery and were able to take care of it. I hope DH gets good results from his dr visits, too. Getting distracted looking through fabric – I can relate!

  3. How great it is that D is regaining her mobility!
You’ve done spectacularly with all your sewing/quilting! 🙂
And the rain … it was nice to not have to water my flowers and veggies! I’m not worried about my brown grass. 🙂
    Hopefully the smoke stays away!

    1. Hi Gail. Life is pretty good right now. I’m looking out DH’s hospital room window and the storm warnings are wrong. It’s a bit smoky but the clouds haven’t rolled in yet! Hope you get more rain = more stitching time 🤗

  4. So interesting to hear what they found with D, and so glad to know she’s doing so much better! Hope DH’s procedure went well, too. I’m also glad to hear you’re getting rain! We could send you some of ours – Colorado has had a very wet and chilly Spring. Great for quilters, but we golfers need it to warm up and dry out a little! Have a great week, Carol!

    1. Hi Diann. It was good to see how well D is doing now. Unfortunately the much needed rain is also bringing more lightning (my poor country is burning everywhere), but my golf course is greening up nicely 😉

  5. I love your scrappy and colorful Leader/Enders project! Pretty stars for the house blocks, it’s going to be a beautiful quilt too.
I’m happy that D. is getting better. Strange thing about her throat, but so glad that her legs are getting stronger.
Thank you for sharing, and linking up.

  6. Oh Carol! I’m so happy D’s problem was discovered and and repaired and she is on the mend. I do believe in miracles and this sounds like one to me!! Love all your beautiful projects. I’ve never done leader/ender projects, but I’m considering cutting up some scraps with my AccuQuilt and using them as leader/enders instead of using the same one over and over!! Thanks so much for linking up with us at Monday Musings! Have a great week!

    1. Thank you Brenda. I don’t use the word “miracle” lightly but I sure do believe this was one for D. Leader/Enders work for me. I get extra blocks and don’t waste thread 😁. I hope your week is going as well as mine; much needed rain but some lightning as well!

  7. So glad they found the throat problem with MIL. It has to be a relief that she’s taken a turn for the better. Good luck with your to do list this week. You’ve done well on both the stitching and stash metrics so far this year.

    1. Thank you Kate. I’m sure stitching has kept me calm with all that’s gone on this year which means good numbers. D is doing well and I hope your MIL continues to improve 🤗
