I haven’t been doing a lot of sewing these last few months since we lost our little Clarke, but recently I finished a commission for a baby who is due in September. The surrogate Aunt and I had gone shopping to find the perfect fabrics for a little boy.

I designed, sewed, quilted and bound the quilt and made a matching pillowcase.

Once everything was finished I was left with a few bits and pieces of fabric. That’s when I had a squirrel attack me since these fabrics are just too cute to add to the scrap bin for use “someday”.
Recently my granddaughter informed me that “no one uses crib quilts Nana. We all use sleep sacks now.” I had made the quilt for the little guy large enough to be a floor quilt or to go on a youth or even a single bed and had the matching pillowcase as well, but I did have those leftover scraps so I had to drop everything else and make a little quilt that would work for a car seat quilt.

I did some stitch in the ditch to stabilize everything once I had it sandwiched and basted. Then I did stitch some diagonal lines of stitching. I wanted it to be secure since it will be washed a lot, but I didn’t want it to be too stiff.
All that was left when I put the binding on this little quilt was 2 – 2” squares. 😁

Such a lovely way to use up important fabric scraps. Some things are just too precious to languish in a bag…

I am LOL over what your granddaughter said! Those scraps made such a cute car seat quilt. What size is it?

The little quilt finished at 18” x 24” so it’s just right for a car seat or runner; whichever Mom prefers 😉

Wow Carol, I just love the main quilt, a terrific design, and what a great idea to make a carseat quilt with leftovers. I will keep that idea on the back burner to use up the rest of the Acorn Woods fabric I recently won.

Thank you Sandra. Those little quilts work as either a car seat quilt or a runner. I enjoy making them and with our fall and winter weather it just makes sense to have extras in the car 😉
