The Squirrels Got Me

This has been a fun week so far.

I have a couple of finished projects!

I had won a gift certificate from Mad About Patchwork from Sandra Walker at MMM Quilts in her Follow Your Own Path QAL.

I knew I had the perfect floral fabric and the “right” green, but needed the solid colours to coordinate with the floral. I checked with Mad About Patchwork and of course, found exactly what I needed for my squirrel project. Aren’t those Northcott fabrics perfect?

Isn’t it just a nice bright palette.

The pattern was one I loved from Sandra at MMM Quilts called Let Your Star Shine (the link takes you to the pattern) which I had already made once. It finishes at 36 1/2” square. This is my second version of this quilt. I’m thinking that I might want to make it just a little larger so I’m determining how to add another border. Should I continue the mitered effect on opposite corners?

This was my first version of Let Your Star Shine:

My next finish should give you all a good chuckle. My DH is on the Board of Directors for the golf course where we live. He enjoys volunteering me to do little projects for the Course. Today he volunteered me to install new seat covers on a cart.

You can no longer see the duct tape repairs on the seat and I added a foam padding so it’s got some Cush now! 😉. I’m thinking that the Board might decide that I should do the other 6 carts now 🤔

As I was reading emails and blogs just before I started to write this post, I saw that I was featured on Denise’s blog, For The Love of Geese on her weekly linky party Put Your Foot Down 114. She thought my Phoenix Rising was pretty fiery! What a great compliment from another designer I admire. Did you see she entered some quilts in a virtual quilt show? You should pop over to her blog to click on the link and vote for her quilts, either the Tree of Life or the Looking in Wallhanging. You could also get the latest info on her new SAL which just started.😉

Thank you for stopping by to read my post. It’s always fun to read your comments. 😄 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

    1. Hi Wendy. The squirrel attacks were fun this week. Even the golf cart wasn’t so bad since we had bought the cover set. I just had to figure out what to use for padding since the carts sit outside (I cut up a yoga mat 😉). It only took a little over an hour and does improve the looks so much! 😉

  1. Love your latest “Let your Star Shine” quilts … very pretty. When I enlarged mine, I added the same fabric as the border … but I didn’t quite have enough, so the cornerstones were a different fabric (both the border and cornerstones were in the star.) Happy Quilting!

    1. Hi Gail. I was trying to decide if I wanted to just do a regular border or add the mitered border. I just had to go back and look at yours again and think your border with cornerstones is a sweet way of enlarging the pattern. Thankyou for the reminder that you had already enlarged the quilt top. 😉

  2. Hi Carol! Those new solid fabrics look GORGEOUS with your floral and patterned. You couldn’t have done a better job IMHO. I love that pattern by Sandra and you do it well. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  3. I have a golf cart, too! We are on an island and ours hasn’t need that yet, but I can see it coming. When it does, I will know who to ask! I love your new star version and I think you may want to miter those borders. Of course, you do have your work cut out for you with all those great quilts! I bet you take a tiny dive into the squirrel bin before you know it.

    1. Ha Ha Kathleen. You know me too well. I was doing just that! Diving into scraps 😉. The covers for the golf cart were purchased on Amazon. We had bought a cover for DH’s cart 4 months ago. This cover cost double. Rising prices are understandable but double was crazy! I used a yoga mat for the padding. I thought it would hold up better in the weather 😉
