12.6. AB INTRA
The theme for the final PQ Challenge is “Ab Intra” or from within.
This past year with our activities curtailed due to the pandemic most of us had had so much more time to have our thoughts turn inward to who we are and why we enjoy our craft so much.
When I started quilting I fell in love with the historic blocks; Churn Dash, Ohio Star, etc. The Churn Dash has become my favourite block to use when I’m just not sure of what I want to do or need a quilt quickly.
When I saw this pattern on the AQS site a couple of years ago, I knew I would have to make it “some day”. It was the first pattern published in American Quilter magazine, Hole in the Barndoor x 3 by Joe Arnold. The finished size is 29” x 29”.

Once I started thinking of the theme and the new normal that our lives have taken on I thought this might represent my life. My life centres around my DH, my family (through social media) and my quilting (both actual quilting and being part of our worldwide on line community). It is so simple now; no hassle and bustle running around, no meetings to hurry off to; even shopping is done on line now!

I decided to modify the pattern in honour of the smaller bubble we live in. I used scraps from my bin to make it. Once I had it sandwiched I did some echo quilting and machine stitched my binding both front and back. My finished size is 5 1/2” square and I even have a humility section in this little quilt. Can you see it?
It’s now complete with a hanging ribbon and a label on the back.

Thank you for stopping by to read my post. 😄 Carol

Yay for the finish, and it’s a fun one! I don’t see the humility section, but I’m not looking very hard, either 🙂

Hi Carol! The churn dash block is my new favorite – I only made it for the first time for SAHRR. I just adore the 3D look your finished piece has!! And to make a miniature version, no less. Kudos to you, my friend. You did a great job and it’s a great project for this challenge. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Thank you Roseanne. It’s always been my favourite go to block. Shrinking the pattern was a fun brain challenge 😉
