I had the greatest time deciding on a project for this hop. There were just so many choices.
Practicality set in and I chose to make a new bag for my knitting or crocheting. I get frustrated because I’m always having to put everything down if the phone rings or (heaven forbid) laundry needed to go in or a dish on the stove needed stirring. It’s so frustrating when life gets in the way of our crafting time. 😉
The first thing I did was pull out some leftover 2 1/2” wide strips and did a quick stitch and flip on a muslin backing.

Once it was sewn and pressed, I folded it wrong sides together and cut the folded piece 12” x 16”. Then I cut out the curved sections for the arm holes and I cut a 1 1/2” square from the bottom corners (yes one of the bottom cuts is on the fold). I then cut the lining fabric, folded it and pinned it to the underneath side of the folded bag outside piece in order to cut the mirror image.

I sewed the side seam on both the lining and body with right sides facing.

Then boxed the corners by folding the seams together.

I put the lining inside the body and sewed all around the seam.

Then I added a strap to the section by wrapping it and stitching 1/4” from the edge of the lining and body.

I turned everything right side out with the lining inside the bag and pressed it.

All that was left to do was top stitch the edges and fill the bag.

Now I can have it on my arm as I wander while talking on the phone.

Hope you enjoyed seeing my stripes in this fun little project.

What a great idea, and a cute bag. You sure whipped that up quickly! I’m not sure I’m coordinated enough to have a bag over my arm, be knitting, and talking on the phone all at once – haha! You go, though!

Thanks Wendy. I pace when I’m on the phone so having my knitting with me helps keep my hands busy 😉

What a great bag with fun fabric colors and prints. I hate having to put something down just to go do some quick thing. To just get up and go over to stir the pot without having to resettle again, great idea! Also great for the waiting room of an appointment. Love the idea!

Thank you Ann. I never thought of the waiting room but you are so right. I’d never put it down and have to go back for it. 😉

Great project and one I’m tempted to make. I don’t really have a favorite color but I find I gravitate more toward purples.

Hi Carol! I adore stripes and you chose a great practical project. LOVE it! I was just ‘charged’ with making a bag for ‘special’ little people. Little People as in the small characters like Elmo, Oscar, etc. that are made of hard plastic and are about four-inches tall. Hmm. What kind of bag do they need? I may be using your great tutorial. Thank you! ~smile~ Roseanne

Hi Roseanne. This bag would work with the open side for removing little people. It’s just an idea that worked. 😉

Great bag, Carol! I love the colors that you’ve used, and it is so much classier than the ziplock bag that I use for my crochet project. 😁

Thank you. 😊. I saw a photo of one somewhere and figured it out. The only thing I’d do different is to make the strap shorter so the bag is just below my arm.
