My Stitching Resolution

Once again Carla from Creatin’ In The Sticks put out a call for bloggers to join her in a Blog Hop, and I had to join in. I always enjoy Carla’s Hops 😉

It is fitting that the last Blog Hop of 2020, the year of craziness would be a somewhat different hop after the year of stress, drama and craziness we have had. For those who contracted Covid-19 or lost a loved one, my heart goes out to you.

The rules were simple:

“This hop doesn’t require stitching, it’s all about your stitching plan for the new year. Let’s share new ideas and inspiration. All you have to do is finish this statement in a blog post:

My stitching resolution for 2021 is _____________________________.”

I had to sit for a while and think about all of the things I would like to do; get better at doing appliqué work, do more paper piecing, start an EPP handwork project, and then I received a phone call that made my decision easy.

My stitching resolution for 2021 is to empty these bins:

They are full of my unquilted flimsies😊and really need to be finished and find knew homes. All of my flimsies are folded with backing and binding; some even have extra fabric “in case” I decide at the last minute that they need another border.

The telephone call I received was from “my guy” arranging delivery of my longarm just after New Years Day. It’s so wonderful to have another reason to look forward to the New Year! With some bins of flimsies to practise on, it shouldn’t take me too long to get up to speed with my techniques. 🤔

Does anyone have some suggestions for books they consider necessities on their quilting motifs shelf in their library? If so, please leave a suggested title for me in the comments below. 😄

For those of you who are new to my blog, I just bought one of these beauties just before we went in to lockdown the second time.

I have been trying to be patient while waiting for our numbers to go down and shipments to arrive. My technician went in to isolation when he closed the shop for Christmas. I do not see anyone other than DH so we both feel that it should be safe for a delivery to be made as long as we mask up and keep socially distant.

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  2. Hi Carol a wonderful new toy and its great you have so many quilts waiting to be done. I do hope you get all your Resolutions done. I, too, will be glad to the see the back of 2020 which is not normal for me as I hate the change of the year usually but not this! Have a wonderful 2021. Hugs & Love Susie xx

  5. What a great way to spend 2021. I have the older version of the Avante and love it. I still need to practice, practice, practice, but it’s way faster than free motion on the domistic. Have a great time perfecting your skills and Happy New Year!

    1. Hi Karrin. I’ve been saving for quite a while and my guy gave me a really sweet deal (perhaps helped by my sending 8 people his way to buy machines since he is the best technician in 250 miles and I tell everyone so). Good servicemen need to be talked about 😁

  13. Oh a long arm how fun. I love using my mid arm, but I have to be “in the mood” which with my schedule isn’t often. Can’t wait to see your quilting, and finishing up those tops.

    1. Thank you Colette. I thought about getting a mid arm but the long arm will live in my sister’s studio. There wasn’t room in our 650 sq ft apartment for either so I bit the bullet and bought the big one since I have to travel to her place to use it 😉

  16. Congratulations on your longarm. I’ve wondered a few times if I should have gone that way instead of what I did, but my goal for the new year is to conquer this monster and figure out why it doesn’t work as easily as my last one did! LOL Maybe the problem is more me than machine. =)

  18. How exciting to get that phone call. Congrats. I’ve had an HQ16 for years and absolutely love it. What a bonus to have quilts to practice on ready to go. Enjoy that new longarm. Happy New Year!

  22. Oh Carol, you are going to love your Avante! I have had mine for about 4 years with the 12 foot frame. I added the Pro-Stitcher a couple of years ago, and last year?? at least before lockdown, I purchased the adjustable frames because I do a lot of ruler work. You will have so much fun! I hope your new toy arrives soon. Even with my Avante, I still have a NUMBER of flimsies to quilt. Those will be on my PHD list for 2021!! As for books, I broke down and purchased some of Margaret Solomon Gunn’s books. I LOVE her quilting and am no where near her skill love, but I sure love trying to learn the techniques! I also like to watch Natalia Bonner YouTube videos to get some great ideas!! Have fun working on your goals and if there’s anything I can do to help, just let me know! Unfortunately, I fear we are headed for another lockdown as our numbers keep rising!

    1. Brenda thank you for the great suggestions. I love Natalia Bonner and am familiar with her but will definitely check out Margaret Solomon Gunn. We have been back in lockdown since just after my birthday in October and I’m hoping it doesn’t interfere with my delivery. Our numbers are increasing here in British Columbia as well.
