PHD in 2021

Every year Gail from Quilting Gail has a linky party to help us complete our stash of UFO’ or PHD’s.

This are Gail’s definitions of both:

  • a PHD in quilting terms means Projects Half Done
  • UFO in quilting terms means UnFinished Objects
  • My own definition of UFOs for the PHD includes all projects started in December 2020 that are not complete by December 31.

I thought about it and decided that since my focus will be on quilting and learning to use my long arm machine this year, to list some of my UFO’s. They are finished quilt tops, bundled with binding, backing and any extra fabrics in case I decide to make them larger before quilting. With this many quilts to finish it shouldn’t take me long to figure out my machine and which threads, rulers and tools I need to add to make this all work well. 😉

Only 6 of these 18 projects have some sewing left to do. 12 are in my To Be Quilted bins.🤗. Of my projects that require some stitching is my oldest UFO from 2013. (Oh that’s so sad to admit it). The reason it is a UFO is that “some” of the fabric to finish this project was borrowed somehow and I haven’t been able to source any more of it. I have, however come up with an alternative idea to finally be able to finish it. I will make more of the blocks with an different background and then when constructing the top, I will alternate the 2 backgrounds. Keeping my fingers crossed that this will work. If not I will have to rethink the plan.

This will be my year to complete projects and I am determined to earn my PHD. I plan on continuing to keep up with requests to do pattern testing and dealing with the squirrels that like to chase me down. As of now I do not have very many planned starts in 2021, but we all know how quickly that can change. 😉

Linking With Quilting Gail PHD 2021

Published by Carol Andrews

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. Hi Carol! I think you will love participating in Gail’s PHD. We did it two years ago with great success, and didn’t participate last year because we wrapped up all of our UFOs. We now have a good handle on them. Good luck! I know you won’t need it as once you get going on that longarm you’ll finish them in no time. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
