Project Quilting 11.4 Birds in the Air

The new challenge was posted on Sunday and somehow I missed it. Luckily another blogger mentioned it in one of her posts.

The challenge was to use the Birds in The Air block in either it’s original format or revising it.

I remembered I had some leftover 4 patches and bonus hst’s from a quilt top I had done a few months ago.

Usually when I make a quilt I make a couple of matching pillow slips. When I did this top I didn’t have enough leftover fabric to do so. Instead I dug out the leftovers and the scraps from my scrap bin to see if my idea would work.

I measured, cut and sewed the leftovers together, added borders to two sides of the four patches and made a total of four blocks. The blocks were joined together and sandwiched with batting and backing. I had fun doing some stitch in the ditch and ruler work on the sandwich. Then I added an envelope backing to the block and a new pillow cover was born to gift with the quilt when I get it finished.

So here’s my project for Project Quilting 11.4. I’m sure glad that Persimmon Dreams is hosting this great challenge and I’d like to thank Kim and Trish for the fun they are inspiring!

Have you started your project? Are any ideas taking flight in your imagination?

Thank you for stopping by to read about my flight of fancy. 😉 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. Hi Carol! I just love your birds in the air project. I just adore HSTs and how versatile they are! I’ll remind you about the next project on March 1st. We’re getting down to the end of the challenges. Waaa. ~smile~ Roseanne

    1. Thank you Roseanne. I’ll for sure need a reminder on March 1st since I will be at the wonky eye stage of recovery after the second eye surgery next week and reading or sewing a lot will be difficult. 🥴. Carol
