Hello and welcome to my Sunday Summary. Once again it has been 4 weeks since I managed to get a post written since life has gone sideways again. 🥹
Last time I wrote I was finishing up training the new staff for the golf club. Well I had all but one staff member trained and was just doing backup training while she was working. After two weeks she quit because she did not want to follow the routines and procedures here. She thought they were ridiculous and just didn’t work for her so she was going to do it her way, and could not handle any instructions. 😲
Then between 6:00 pm on Friday and 6:00 pm on Sunday, of the Victoria Day long weekend, we had a break-in here at the golf course. Our season’s gasoline and diesel, equipment and tools worth over $7500.00 was stolen and damages to doors and locks for several hundred dollars. It’s heartbreaking because this is a community owned, volunteer run course. We run low cost classes for both youth and senior groups to allow for an affordable recreational opportunity. Youth under 16 golf for free. We employ 8 seasonal staff with a couple of Board members volunteering when staff schedules are short. We checked our insurance policies and our deductible is $2500 so we will be strapped to cover it. All of our incoming funds just barely cover payroll and expenses. We were hoping with being open early (with no payroll since I covered it as a volunteer) that we might manage to upgrade one of our mowers this year, but it doesn’t look feasible now.

I wound up meeting with the RCMP for several hours in the rain and caught a chill.
Tuesday evening I had just tucked DH in to bed and went to look down at the maintenance shop to see what the newly installed lights were like in the dark, and I saw lights coming across the #1 fairway where there shouldn’t be lights. I ran back inside, turning off my exterior light (as is my habit) and called 911. While I was. On the phone with the dispatcher, I messaged a nearby Board member. Within 7 1/2 minutes there were 5 staff or Board members here armed with baseball bats or golf clubs. Meanwhile the dispatcher asked me if I could go see how many intruders there were. I asked her if she was crazy, told her there was no cell service once I got that far from our wifi and told her that at 70 years old, I’m not prepared to have an in the face confrontation in the rain, in the middle of the night, with some intruders.
The final result has been no arrests and I developed a cold, which settled in my chest and on Friday was diagnosed with pneumonia and I’m on medication for the first time in 2 decades 🥹
So it has been another crazy couple of weeks and yes, I’m still working in the clubhouse 🤭
My Last To-Do Goals:
Now it’s time to see how I did with my last goals to remind myself where I left off:

1. Finish my SAHRR. No progress 😢
2. Work on my orphan block project if I can find the rest of my orphan blocks. No progress 😢
3. Try to get my seaside quilt for Nova Scotia together to a flimsy. No progress 😢
4. Get the sashing strips on the Butterfly Quilt. No progress 😁
5. Keep playing with my UFO. No progress 😢
✅ 6. If my parcel comes, get my cutting table set up and my cutting mat serviced. Parcel received and I’m all set up with my rulers in their lovely new rack on my cutting table. 😁
7. Stop Sam and her squirrel buddies from distracting me. 🐿️🐿️. This was a complete fail! I didn’t get anything done on my list but have had some squirrels projects take over my life:
- I finished making a massive Frankenbatting with all my leftover bits to get one of my bins emptied from my storage room.
- A good friend was invited to dance at an upcoming powwow so he needed a Sundance ribbon skirt made to follow his Lakota traditions.
- I had to make a Walker caddy for a friend’s mother in law. It was a DrEAMI project so I had to get it done quickly and it was picked up before I could get a photo. This is the pattern I’d found.
- I’ve been able to spend time with a friend, learning to use my embroidery machine to do some items to help with our fundraising to get our golf club restocked with fuel, gas, tools and equipment.
- My parcel came and I’m finally able to set up my new ruler stand on my cutting table. Thank you to Kelly from Silly Moon Quilting Company for the wonderful stand I won. I love their quilting rulers and have several in my collection now at the studio for my longarm. Now I’m going to have to get new ones for my dsm since I can’t get away to the studio any more.

I also finished my spring cleaning and helped organize and run another golf tournament.

This Week’s goals:

My list this week is almost a duplicate of my last one, but I’m just going to be grateful of any time I can sit and fondle fabric.
1. Finish the wedding quilt.
2. Finish my SAHRR.
3. Work on my orphan block project if I can find the rest of my orphan blocks.
4. Try to get my seaside quilt for Nova Scotia together to a flimsy.
5. Get the sashing strips on the Butterfly Quilt.
6. Keep playing with my UFO.
7. Stop Sam and her squirrel buddies from distracting me.
Stitchin’ Time

Kate from Life in Pieces hosts a weekly linky party to help us keep to our goals of stitching every day!
I’m trying for at least 30 minutes a day this year and 1 hour at the end of the week to tidy up and deal with my scraps. 🤔
- January 31/31
- February 25/28
- March 25/31
- April 2/30
- May 10/31
- June 3/6
- this week 3/7
- previous total: 83/120
- Total: 96/157
- Percentage = 61.15 %
How are you doing with your goal to stitch for at least 15 minutes each day? Have you joined Kate’s challenge? 😁

Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash. Last year I didn’t manage to use as much stash fabric as I planned since I don’t get to go to the studio and play on the long arm, but I’ve been working on finishing quilts on my dsm. 🤩
- Fabric Used: 0 yards
- Fabric Purchased this week: 5 yards
- Fabric Previous Balance: 62 yards
- Fabric Purchased this year: 5 yards
- Balance in stash to use this year: 60 yards
* my goal is to lessen my stash by 100 yards this year but realistically I’ll be happy with whatever I manage.
* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!
