Sunday Summary #232

It’s finally looking like winter 😁

Hello and welcome to my To Do List and see any progress I’ve made (or can share at least) on last week’s list. 😉

I have to say it’s been another good week. I stitched every day and was busy doing some re-arranging, sorting and looking for fabrics I need for a project.

I only had 3 meetings this week; resulting in my volunteering to write another Grant and assisting with planning some fundraising events.

We have been getting some snow and one day it was cold enough for Cerulean Blue Skies and crispy footsteps if you went out for a walk!

My Last To-Do Goals:

My week was cruising along just great in spite of real life. Then I remembered a certain piece of yardage I wanted to finish the quilt that will be going east when it’s finished. I searched my stash cupboard, couldn’t find it so I thought perhaps it ended up in a scrap bin in the storage room or even a bin with flimsies. I have a habit of either making my binding or putting fabric for both binding and backing with each flimsy in a bin to wait their turn to be finished. I was really wanting to find the fabric because I don’t want to drive an hour to an hour and a half (depending on travel North or south) to one or the other of my favourite LQS’s.

Can you guess what happened? Samantha convinced me to re-organize, purge and sort through every single thing in the storage room. I mean, really, do we need construction tools, our clothes that fit when both DH and I were 3 sizes larger, or DH’s collection of 23 winter jackets (that no longer fit)?

I will also admit to taking out every finished quilt, wall hanging, or runner and measuring and re-folding every one. I prefer to do so every few months so the fold lines don’t become too deeply imbedded.

End result; that piece of fabric did not turn up, so now I will have to check my project bins and scrap bins under my cutting table. it might be mid week before I finish doing that sorting since I have something scheduled every single day except Thursday this week (Board and Committee meetings, prep days for our Guild fundraiser, a medical appointment for me and a fundraising event at the Golf Club on the weekend).

It’ll be an adventure to see if I find any more WIP’s or UFO’s in any of those bins, or if I actually manage to find the fabric I’m searching for. I’m really hoping I’ve found all of the surprises, but considering the way last year went I’d not be shocked to find more treasures. 😉

The other fun I had this week came about because our Guild librarian is on vacation and asked me to pick up a book that I had requested she order for our library. I picked it up when I went in to town on Thursday and spent some very enjoyable time reading it before it goes in to our library! Being on the Board does have some perks! 🤣

If you have any suggestions for interesting books, please share 😉

Now it’s time to see how I did with my goals for the week:

1. Continue with my new plan making my quilt top from my crumb blocks and leftover panel blocks. I’ve started working on these blocks again. 😁

2. Continue working on the blocks for the quilt for C’s friend in Nova Scotia. No progress this week because I started trying to find another piece of fabric I know I had in my stash. 😢

I ask you; how is it possible to lose fabric when anything larger than 1/2 yard is in this cabinet?

✅3. Get the needlepoint finished when I get a frame on my trip to town later this week. I wasn’t able to find a frame for this piece, but I did find something I liked even better. It’s completely done! Mounted and gifted today, complete with a selection of organic teas, to a friend that is recovering from 7 hours in the O.R! She has a studio here called Dragonfly so finding this kit was pre-ordained I’m sure 😁

4. Finish more blocks for the memory quilts. I’m making progress 😁

✅ 5. Work on binding the stack of quilts. I’m giving myself a checkmark since I did the quilting and finished binding another quilt. After binding it, I decided it needs more quilting so it’s not quite finished yet. This was another quilt I didn’t write about last year since I had finished one and I loved it and had more than enough jelly roll strips and coordinating fabric I had duplicated the pattern and finished another flimsy. It’s funny how I keep finding treasures EVERY time I have to go searching in the storage room. 😳

6. If I finish more of the above projects I will start another of the projects from my project bins.

7. Determine what I will do with these lovely hrt’s. I’ve managed to use some of these (see number 9 below), and just might have a plan for the rest! 😉

8. I’m excited to start my version of the SAHRR.

✅ 9. If I can get my head around the challenge, do something for Project Quilting 17.1. I have another finish! The first start and finish of the year. You can read about it in this POST. 😁

✅ 10. Keep Samantha and her squirrel buddies from distracting me again or sidetracking me from my list. 🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️ while Samantha did not sidetrack me with starting another quilting project, she did convince me to re-organize (and purge) my storage room when I went looking for a piece of missing fabric.

This Week’s goals:

1. Continue with my plan for making my quilt top from my crumb blocks and leftover panel blocks.

2. Continue working on the blocks for the quilt for C’s friend in Nova Scotia.

3. Finish more blocks for the memory quilts

4. Work on binding the stack of quilts.

5. If I finish more of the above projects I will start another of the projects from my project bins.

6. Determine what I will do with the rest of these lovely hrt’s.

7. I’m excited to start my version of the SAHRR.

Stitchin’ Time

Did you see Kate’s new logo? It’s just too cute!🥰

Kate from Life in Pieceshosts a weekly linky party to help us keep to our goals of stitching every day!

I’m trying for at least 30 minutes a day this year and 1 hour at the end of the week to tidy up and deal with my scraps. 🤔

  • January 10/31
  • this week 7/7
  • Previous Total: 3/3
  • Total: 10/10
  • Percentage = 100 %

How are you doing with your goal to stitch for at least 15 minutes each day? Have you joined Kate’s challenge? 😁

Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash. Last year I didn’t manage to use as much stash fabric as I planned since I don’t get to go to the studio and play on the long arm, but I’ve been working on finishing quilts on my dsm. 🤩

  • Fabric Used: 0 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Previous Balance: 0 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this year: 0 yards
  • Balance in stash to use this year: 100 yards

* my goal is to lessen my stash by 100 yards this year but realistically I’ll be happy with whatever I manage. I’ve been using mostly scraps, leftover bits and donated treasures and not a lot of yardage from my stash.😉

* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!

Still holding strong!

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. Congrats on finishing up the purge. I’m trying to do that house wide, it’s a slow process, but worth it. I really like the finish you found for your dragonfly project, very pretty. Good luck with this week’s list and fingers crossed you find that fabric.

  2. You have been busy, as usual! Bummer that you can’t find the fabric, but I bet all that clearing feels good (it’s a lot of work!). You’ve reminded me that I need to refold some of my quilts. Will be fun to see what you discover as you continue. your search for the fabric. I’m so excited that you are joining in with SAHRR once again! Yay!

    1. Thank you Wendy. The purge seems to be a yearly routine! After 9 years in this place you’d not think there was anything else to pass along. I’m happy to be creating again and am looking forward to joining everyone doing the SAHRR

    1. Thank you. She did have a surprised expression when I told her it was my first needlepoint project and has said she enjoyed the teas. Thank you for hosting us on Wednesday Weight Loss. 😁
