Project Quilting 17.1

The fun has begun with this week’s challenge:

“Your project should represent 2026 creativity starting from a clean slate. You get to interpret what that means. Start fresh, stay loose, and listen to your muses.”

If you click on the logo above it takes you to the post where Kim and Trish share the details and you can find the linky party

I sat at my sewing machine, working on an UFO from this past year, thinking of the challenge.

I thought of a clean slate and was looking at the shelves by my machine table when I spotted this:

I’m sure we all have items in our sewing spaces that have treasured memories attached to them. This mini quilt rack was gifted to me by one of my students. It had belonged to her Mom and each of the little quilts were from printed material.

I noticed the mini quilts were fading:

So I thought I’d start my year by giving my little quilt rack a refresh. One of my goals this year is to use up any leftover bits orphan blocks instead of adding them to the scrap bin.

I finished doing a pattern test for Kathryn Mykel of Dragonfly’s Quilt Design Studio a couple of weeks ago and had all of those pretty HST offcuts leftover.

So began a new goal for the year: have a clean slate after I finish a quilt, by making a little mini quilt for my sweet little quilt rack. It will remind me of my student, her mother and fun projects I finish as the year goes by.

I simply have to thank Kim and Trish for the fun challenge and causing me to do my second finish of 2026.

I enjoy project quilting challenges. They are a true example of DrEAMI (Drop Everything and Make It) or squirrel projects. It’s one time I refuse to even try to control Samantha, my inner squirrel. Instead I let Sam run rampant and follow where she leads when taking up a new Project Quilting Challenge.

Thank you for stopping to read my post. If you leave me a comment, I’ll be thrilled and do reply to each one. 😉 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. Cute! I get so overwhelmed by all my little extras. I like doing mini’s and try to use up my scraps but sometime there are just too many scraps.

    1. Thank you! I’ve never really done minis but I just don’t want to keep adding to my scrap bins since I’m working on emptying them instead of using just stash fabric, but they are a fun finish. 😁
