Sunday Summary #230

Hello and welcome to my To Do List.

I have to say it’s been a good week. DH and I stayed home, had a bit of company and enjoyed being together. We had several video chats with children, grandchildren and great grands. It was wonderful to see their faces and see what new adventures they’ve been up to; everything from new critters to travelling in Europe! The families are each very different in how they spend their time and activities they enjoy. While DH enjoyed his favourite past time (channel flipping) I enjoyed some quality time with my fabric and machines and had time to reflect on the year past and plan ahead for next year.

As New Year’s Eve approaches I was thinking of any resolutions I might want to make, but decided instead that I’d just enjoy the days and make plans as situations develop. So much depends on DH and how he is doing each day. What about you? Do you have any resolutions or are you just going to go with the flow?

DH’s doctors have changed his medications again. As usual the costs have increased. Add to that the other personal supplies he needs have increased so I’m really glad I’ve managed to accumulate a decent supply of both fabric and scraps to keep me busy for the upcoming year. next up is to make him some bibs. He gets frustrated when eating if he spills. The paralysis in his hands has increased while his mobility is decreasing. We are managing just fine since he’s lost weight and I can still lift him. The best thing is the fact that we both have good senses of humour and can usually manage to find something to share a giggle over. Life is always manageable if you can share some laughter and hugs every day.

I think the atmospheric river has finally dispersed and we are back to a “normal” winter weather situation. It’s frosty cold out and there is finally a bit of snow staying on the ground. It meant I got to hear some wee ones laughing today as they were out tobogganing on the golf course slopes 😁

While on line today I saw this ad for a t shirt. I think all of us should have received these for Christmas 🤭

Did you read it while thinking of the tune “Let it Snow”? I sure did! 😉

My Last To-Do Goals:

Now it’s time to see how I did with my goals for the week:

✅ 1. Finish reconstructing my version of Arabesque. I’ve finally finished it and am even more in love with this pattern! Can’t you just imagine it in different colorways? You can always pop over to Sandra’s blog to see other versions. Mine was done with leftover Christmas fabrics. It was sandwiched and quilted with simple straight line quilting since I was doing it on my dsm. It’s been bound and gifted already and yes I didn’t get a finished photo since I was on a time crunch and forgot. 🥹

2. Finish making my quilt top from my crumb blocks and leftover panel blocks. No progress 🥹

✅ 3. Finish the blocks for the quilt for C’s friend in Nova Scotia. The bits for my blocks are all constructed and I’m just determining the final layout and framing the blocks to get them to the right size. 😁

✅ 4. Get the needlepoint stitched so I can decide how to finish it. I have the finished piece soaking now to get it mounted. 😁

5. Finish more blocks for the memory quilts No progress this week 🥹

✅ 6. Work on binding the stack of quilts. I’ve finished hand stitching the binding on the first of these and have made and attached the binding by machine to the front of the quilts so I can attach labels and hand stitch the bindings to the back. I did find that I had started hand stitching the binding on some of the quilts before I folded them up and put them in the bin! 🤭. I’ll post photos when I have them finished. I’ve also double checked the bins to make sure I’ve not missed any others. 😉

7. If I finish any of the above projects I will start another of the projects from my project bins. I didn’t get to start anything from these bins yet 😢

✅ 8. Try to figure out if I can do anything with this lovely mountain of trimmings. I’ve made a couple of hundred hrt’s with the leftover bits. Just need to trim them and decide what I’m going to do. Anybody have any suggestions for patterns using Half Rectangle’s?

9. I’m already planning my first start for 2026. Just look what is going to be starting soon:

Being hosted by our friend Quilting Gail

✅ 10. Keep Samantha and her squirrel buddies from distracting me again or sidetracking me from my list. 🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️. No distracting or sidetracking. I managed to keep my focus this week in spite of Sam and her buddies! Do you know how many beds are covered with gorgeous quilts in television shows and movies? 😉

This Week’s goals:

I’m hoping this week will allow me to finish some of my projects and end the year right. It should be quiet here at home since neither DH or myself have family near by. His son and grandson are still away for the Christmas break. We get to just relax and enjoy our days together again with only 1meeting scheduled (so far) 😉

1. Finish making my quilt top from my crumb blocks and leftover panel blocks.

2. Finish resizing the blocks for the quilt for C’s friend in Nova Scotia.

3. Get the needlepoint mounted and done.

4. Finish more blocks for the memory quilts

5. Work on binding the stack of quilts.

6. If I finish more of the above projects I will start another of the projects from my project bins.

7. Determine what I will do with this lovely stack of leftovers. I’m trying to train myself to use leftovers right away instead of adding more to my scrap bins.

These were leftover after making the Seaborne Quilt by Kathryn Mykel of Dragonfly’s Quilt Design Studios.

8. I’m already planning my first start for 2026. Just look what is going to be starting soon:

Stitchin’ Time

Kate from Life in Pieces hosts a weekly linky party to help us keep to our goals of stitching every day!

I’m trying for at least 30 minutes a day this year and 1 hour at the end of the week to tidy up and deal with my scraps. 🤔

  • January 4/31
  • February 2/28
  • March 10/31
  • April 12/30
  • May 29/31
  • June 28/30
  • July 31/31
  • August 30/30
  • September 26/30
  • October 25/31
  • November 25/30
  • December 27/27
  • this week 7/7
  • Previous Total: 249/360
  • Total: 256/367
  • Percentage = 71.11%

I’m thrilled to get my stitching time back up over 70% before the year end! 🤣. I hope you all get to set and keep your goals for your Stitching Time and join Kate. 😁

Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash. If I can plan trips to the studio I expect my stash to be reduced terrifically when I start making backings for all of the quilt tops I’ve got to do. 🤩

  • Fabric Used: 2 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Previous Balance: 15 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this year: 9 yards
  • Balance in stash to use this year: 6 yards

* my goal is to lessen my stash by 200 50 yards this year but realistically I’ll be happy with whatever I manage. I’m lessening my goal since I’ve been using mostly scraps, leftover bits and donated treasures and since I’ll not be getting to use my longarm my backing fabric usage will be minimal.😉

* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!

Memories of Quilts From the Past

One of my previous SAHRR projects which is now my dust cover for my IMac. I get to enjoy seeing it every day 😉

Design Wall Mondays

Judy, at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts, hosts a linky party for “Design Wall Mondays” every week.

I’m including some photos of my current WIPs;

My UFO and WIP List

Last but not least I have to update my UFO Speadsheet and then try keeping it up to date and so help with my accountability now that I have gone through everything in my storage room and sewing space. The next one you see will be my 2026 list. 😉

I use the spreadsheet that Quilting Gail shared several years ago, but I do need to update it!

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.
