A couple of months ago Joan from Moosestash Quilting and Carol from Just Let Me Quilt announced they were thinking of doing blog hops for Halloween and Christmas. Since they are two of my favourite themes I just knew I had to join in.
Normally here in BC we have snow for Halloween. It means kiddies costumes have to fit over snowsuits and a lot of the festivities are held indoors, but the littles still enjoy going door to door Trick or Treating. So far this year we’ve not had any snow but the frost in the morning is beautiful to see. I was heading to my Guild for a quilting day and noticed the fun effects in the foliage.
I had to enlarge it to get a closeup since it was so intriguing.
Years ago when I lived in Wells, we used to do a Halloween party in Barkerville. The Historic Park lent itself well to a ghostly experience and a lot of the Wells residents jumped in and dressed in costumes and helped decorate the town. You could hear chain saws running, chains rattling, doors creaking and the combined shrieks and laughter of the kid wandering the town or out by the bonfire.
Now I live in the suite in the basement of the clubhouse on our local Golf Club and never see any Trick or Treaters. Instead I make little things to send to family or friends.
This year I decided I really needed to make a fun little project that I’d seen on line.
Barn Bats Quilt Block by Elizabeth Hartman was fun to make using bits from my scrap bin.
It didn’t take long to cut and piece the project (although Jack was used several times 😉).
I thought it was fun but missing something so I played with adding some embroidered eyes after I had the binding on. 🎃
In the past I have joined in on the Halloween Hops and had too much fun making various items for grands, great grands and even myself. I did a number of pattern tests for one of my favourite designers and was lucky enough to use the blocks for fun things;
The Designer I tested all of the fun blocks for is Sandra Healy from Sandra Healy Designs. She has some of the best patterns I’ve ever tested and designs that work for every time or holiday in the year.

Wow, you have done a lot of cool Halloween stitching! I love that barn bats piece–may have to get that pattern for myself. All those bags for the kids–amazing! They will have fun with those! Thanks sew much for sharing!

That’s quite a handsome gent waiving at us at the end of your post. LOL!! Love your barn bats quilt. I never get any trick or treaters myself anymore either, but it doesn’t keep me from loving Halloween. Thanks for sharing all your delightful treats with us.

Your spiderweb photo is very cool and shows off all the details with the frost on it. Adding buttons to the bats was a great idea. It gives it so much character and is way more fun. That creepy guy waving goodbye at the end is hilarious. Happy Halloween!

I love you batty window hanging! I always love that stained glass effect from a quilt. Adding the eyes was a perfect choice. Love seeing all the bags and blocks you made too…such fun halloween treats for the grands and for you!

The bats are too fun, that would be a wonderful light catcher just as it is. You did make good use of your other blocks. You definitely celebrated the spooky season with your stitching.

The addition of the eyes to your bats was a wonderful idea. Gives them a little personality. I really appreciated all of the Halloween fun you shared including the green greater at the end.

Love your barn bat quilt. I really like how it looks like a stained-glass picture hanging in the window. Your other projects are also great. I’m sure your great grands will put those treat bags to good use.
