Sunday Summary #212

One of my favourite views!

I never get tired of getting out for walks to enjoy the scenery here. Between the golf club and my Guild we have a lovely 2 or 3 mile stretch of trails. It goes through some cooler forested area, along a stream and follows the old rail line that used to carry ore from some mines down to a smelter/processing plant a couple of hours away. It’s getting closer to the time where the bears will be coming down to raid the gardens, fruit orchards and wild bushes filled to abundance with apples, pears and several varieties of berries. Then I’ll avoid walking the trail since I’m not interested in ever getting up close to a bear. I once had the adventure of coming around a curve and getting stopped by a herd of caribou on the highway. I was a passenger in a car and when I looked over the no post on my side of the road I saw a grizzly bear not 3’ from me, chattering his tenth as he chewed on the grasses. Not a comfortable experience since the driver (my stepdaughter) was having a good giggle at my leaning closer to her to get further away from that bear!

I’ve been getting out for walks most days again since the temperatures aren’t in the mud to high 30’s. It’s been cooling down at night and I’m thinking it might mean we will have an early fall.

This past week was a good one since I did get one of my machines back and the other one will be ready for pickup on the 21st. I’ve been stitching every day and have some progress to share.

My Last To-Do Goals:

1. Keep making some sling bags, messenger bags and tote bags for the Christmas Hamper/Dinner event in December. I’ve even found some EPP orphans and test blocks I made with an embroidery machine to use up.  I’ve made progress! I have several more bags cut out, fabric is stabilized with interfacing and I’m ready to stitch. 😁

2. Keep hand stitching in the evening doing my EPP and the needlepoint kit. Progress 😁

3. Try to get this project to the flimsy stage. Some progress 😁

4. Finish making my quilt top from my crumb blocks and leftover panel blocks. No progress. 😢

5. Keep working to empty my project bins. No progress 😢

6. If I get one of my machines back I’d like to make some progress on the memory quilts from all of my family’s t-shirts or clothing. I picked up one of my machines on Saturday but didn’t have a chance to get these blocks out. 😢

7. Keep stabilizing the quilt tops for Liz’s project. No progress 😢

8. Keep Samantha and her buddies from distracting me or coercing me to start anything new until I get my list whittled down.  I’ve just added projects to my “Must Make List but otherwise not started anything new 😁

This Week’s goals:

So far it looks like this could be a good week on the stitching front. I have one meeting at the Guild, 2 meetings at the Golf Club and one doctor’s appointment for DH.

Now it’s time to set my goals for the week. I’m going to keep my list shorter and not add any of my UFOs to the list in an attempt to get some of these projects completed.

1. Keep making some bags for the Christmas Hamper/Dinner event in December. My goal is to complete a dozen bags for the event. I know the children enjoy finding treasures they can pick and wrap to gift their parents or caregivers.

2. Keep hand stitching in the evening doing my EPP and the needlepoint kit.

3. Try to get this project to the flimsy stage.

4. Finish making my quilt top from my crumb blocks and leftover panel blocks.

5. Keep working to empty my project bins.

6. I’d like to make some progress on the memory quilts from all of my family’s t-shirts or clothing.

7. Keep stabilizing the quilt tops for Liz’s project.

8. Keep Samantha and her buddies from distracting me or coercing me to start anything new until I get my list whittled down. 🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️

Stitchin’ Time

Kate from Life in Pieces hosts a weekly linky party to help us keep to our goals of stitching every day. I just love her new logo!

I’m trying for at least 30 minutes a day this year and 1 hour at the end of the week to tidy up and deal with my scraps. 🤔

  • January 4/31
  • February 2/28
  • March 10/31
  • April 12/30
  • May 29/31
  • June 28/30
  • July 31/31
  • August 9/9
  • this week 7/7
  • Previous Total: 119/214
  • Total: 126/221
  • Percentage = 57.01 %

I hope you all get to set and keep your goals for your Stitching Time and join Kate. 😁

Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash. If I can plan trips to the studio I expect my stash to be reduced terrifically when I start making backings for all of the quilt tops I’ve got to do. 🤩

  • Fabric Used: 2 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Previous Balance: 15 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this year: 9 yards
  • Balance in stash to use this year: 184 yards

* my goal is to lessen my stash by 200 yards this year. 😉

* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!

Memories of Quilts Long Gone

Another of my favourites (an intriguing Applique project) that was gifted to a friend and is now ensconced in a travel trailer heading out on a cross Canada tour. It was quilted very lightly to make sure it stayed soft and cuddly and was one of my first finishes on my long arm. 😁

Design Wall Mondays

Judy, at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts, hosts a linky party for “Design Wall Mondays” every week.

I’m including some photos of my current WIPs;

My UFO and WIP List

Last but not least I have to update my UFO Speadsheet and then try keeping it up to date and so help with my accountability now that I have gone through everything in my storage room and sewing space. I’ve pulled my lists of projects in my bins and have started to update my list.

I use the spreadsheet that Quilting Gail shared several years ago, but I do need to update it!

This week I’ll even manage to link up with our To-Do Tuesday and the other parties I enjoy.

In closing I’d like to thank you for visiting, for joining the To Do Tuesday linky party, for sharing the party link, and above all for being part of my quilting world. 🤗 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. That IS a gorgeous place to trail walk! Definitely a “No” on the bears though, LOL!! At a National Park we were told, if you can’t cover the sight of the bear with your thumb, you’re too close!! Each bit of project progress is still progress especially with your machines back at home.

    1. Thank you Vivian. It is pretty country here and I’d rather not get up close with a bear again. It is good to have one of my machines home and know that the next one should be ready next week for pick up 😆

  2. You did really well on the stitching time front last week. ?So glad you finally got a machine back, it’s hard to manage without one of the work houses in the sewing room.
