Sunday Summary #207

Hello and welcome to my Sunday Summary and To Do Tuesday List.

My Last To-Do Goals:

I had another busy week and was happy that I was making progress on several projects, but then while stitching a seam, I heard the dreaded “CLUNK” and my machine stopped stitching. Took the time to drive the 2 1/2 hours one way to the LQS where the best technician works. He is a treasure but had warned me last time I had that machine in for repair that he can no longer get parts for it and he had had to resort to using crazy glue to fix one part. 😳. I was able to constrain myself and not look at all the pretty new machines on display in the showroom since it’s just not in the budget with DH having more medications prescribed again. If I’m really lucky I might get it back at the end of the month 🤞🏻

1. Keep working on my hand stitching since slow stitching is so relaxing. I’ve made a lot of progress. All of my pieces are made and I’m assembling them now to the panel I need! 😁

2. Continue working with the blocks for the memory quilts for my son, granddaughters and Clarke’s family from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters and our Clarke’s clothing. Made some progress until my machine went clunk! It’s off to the spa for repair. 😢

3. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise, with some additions from my stash, to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty. No progress 😢

4. Finish making the quilt top from my crumb pieces and a leftover bit from a panel. All of the blocks are made, sashing strips are cut. 😁

5. Make some time to make progress on Gail from Quilting Gail’s Mystery QAL since it finished a while ago.. No progress 😢

6. Continue fixing popped seams and stay stitching the edges of the next bin of quilt tops for Liz’s project. No progress 😢

7. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿. Epic fail here but who can resist a blog hop, especially a fun themed one as this:

Melva Loves Scraps is hosting this fun hop. I’m in! 😁

This Week’s goals:

1. Keep working on my hand stitching since slow stitching is so relaxing.

2. Continue working with the blocks for the memory quilts for my son, granddaughters and Clarke’s family from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters and our Clarke’s clothing. All I can do is determine layouts and cut sashing strips until my machine comes home.

3. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise, with some additions from my stash, to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty. I’ll review the contents of the boxes and see what I need to finish emptying these boxes.

4. Finish making the quilt top from my crumb pieces and a leftover bit from a panel if I can get a machine working? Maybe my Featherweight?

5. Make some time to make progress on Gail from Quilting Gail’s Mystery QAL since it finished a while ago..

6. Continue fixing popped seams and stay stitching the edges of the next bin of quilt tops for Liz’s project. I’ll sort the tops to see which need a lot of work and which just need a bit.

7. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿.

Stitchin’ Time

Kate from Life in Pieces hosts a weekly linky party to help us keep to our goals of stitching every day. I just love her new logo!

I’m trying for at least 30 minutes a day this year and 1 hour at the end of the week to tidy up and deal with my scraps. I wasn’t really off to a good start, but it is getting better as things settle down in my real life and commitments lessen. 🤔

  • January 4/31
  • February 2/28
  • March 10/31
  • April 12/30
  • May 29/31
  • June 28/30
  • July 5/5
  • this week 7/7
  • Previous Total: 84/179
  • Total: 91/186
  • Percentage = 48.92 %

I hope you all get to set and keep your goals for your Stitching Time and join Kate. 😁

Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash. If I can plan trips to the studio I expect my stash to be reduced terrifically when I start making backings for all of the quilt tops I’ve got to do. 🤩

  • Fabric Used: 0 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Previous Balance: 15 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this year: 9 yards
  • Balance in stash to use this year: 186 yards

* my goal is to lessen my stash by 200 yards this year. 😉

* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!

This Stacked Pyramid quilt was too much fun to make 😁

Design Wall Mondays

Judy, at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts, hosts a linky party for “Design Wall Mondays” every week.

I’m including some photos of my current WIPs;

My UFO and WIP List

Last but not least I have to update my UFO Speadsheet and then try keeping it up to date and so help with my accountability now that I have gone through everything in my storage room and sewing space. I’ve not made any progress on this since computer time is limited to reading blogs, checking emails and doing never ending paperwork for the two Societies I help with. 😅

I use the spreadsheet that Quilting Gail shared several years ago, but I do need to update it!

This week I’ll even manage to link up with our To-Do Tuesday and the other parties I enjoy.

If I’d only know when I found this cartoon that I’d possibly be in a position of having to be considering machines at my LQS! 😁

In closing I’d like to thank you for visiting, for joining the To Do Tuesday linky party, for sharing the party link, and above all for being part of my quilting world. 🤗 Carol

Buy Me a Coffee at ko-fi.com

PS. Thank you to the amazing people who have bought me a coffee on Kofi! It helps cover some of my blogging costs and allows me to put aside a bit each month since I’m going to have to replace another machine soon.

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

    1. Thank you Kate. I’m getting out my Featherweight this afternoon to sort out all of its intricacies and learn how to use it. I am enjoying my handwork but need to hear a machine humming along to drown out the click click click as my DH does his thing non stop channel surfing. 🤣

  1. My friend has had good luck buying second hand machines at estate sales and thrift shops. They usually need a general servicing to clean them up. You could also mention it at quilt groups or guilds as there are always people with machines they don’t use.

    1. Great suggestions Donna. Thank you. Unfortunately in the Spring our Guild has an annual fundraiser and so many people donated their unused machines. In fact our Guild sold two of the ones we had. I have lent my backup Janome to a friend and she is in the middle of a project that has a deadline. My favourite machine is at the studio which I can’t get to since my DH can’t be alone for long (studio is 5 hours drive one way). I wish there were secondhand shops or estate sales nearby. The nearest thrifts are an hours drive, but the good ones are 2-5 hours away 😢. I do have a Featherweight but haven’t yet been able to make the time to learn how it all works. I’m one of “Those people” who read manuals before I plug machines in so I just need time to watch YouTube videos and I’ll be good to go. In the meantime I’m enjoying the change of pace doing handwork and prepping next stages and cutting fabric for next projects or WIPs! 😉

  2. Hard to have a lot of progress without a sewing machine but look at those EPP hexies! I love the black, grays, and creams! This will really look nice together. I hope they can repair it for you. I dread the thought of my machine going clunk!🤪

    1. Thank you Dawn I am enjoying doing the handwork and prepping fabric for next steps. You won’t be able to see the finish of the hexie project until the Christmas in July Blog Hop on the 24th but I’m happy with them so far! I just keep reminding myself that if I get the prep work done, the finishes will be quicker. 😆The machine that went clunk was a favourite and my regular, always set up machine. My one backup machine is at a friend’s who had a deadline and no machine and the other is at the spa for her regular maintenance. I just need to watch some videos so I can learn to use my Featherweight. The worst thing is my best, most favourite machines are at the studio and I can’t get away any more. I do have an abundance of machines since I’ve always had a fear of not having one! 🥹
