Sunday Summary #200

Hello and welcome to my Sunday Summary and To Do Tuesday List.

I hope you all have had a wonderful week, filled sunshine and fabric fun.

As usual this week was filled with highs and lows, a dear friend had registered with MAID, but thankfully passed the day before he had to use the service. My oldest grandson had surgery to repair his torn AC and CC tendons, complete with having a plate screwed to his clavicle that has a hook that goes under the rotator cuff. He will have to have it removed in about 3 months. My brother went in to hospital with gall stones, contracted an infection, and has now contracted pneumonia. One of my quilters fell while walking her son’s dog: pulled tendons and ligaments in her shoulder and snapped the bones in her leg, required major surgery by a team of orthopaedic, neurological and vascular surgeons to save her leg. Another very dear friend was air ambulanced to Kelowna for emergency heart surgery. She is waiting for tests to be completed to know which route the cardiologist will be going with her surgery.

Then I received a message that my granddaughter won gold and high gold in a dance competition. I’m so proud of this young lady and her friends. They work so hard and enjoy doing so, so it’s nice to see they do get recognition for it. Miss C is 13 now and almost 4 inches taller than I am.

In the meantime while Miss C is dancing, her little sister is busy with her animals. She has dogs, cats, horses and now over 100 chicks running around. My son called to tell me Miss R now wants to get a couple of goats and some sheep. Told him he will have to get her a carder and spinning wheel so I can teach her to spin. There just happens to be an incredible Woolen Mill a couple of hundred miles from their place that can process the wool for them and do a wonderful job.

Then my friend who broke her leg messaged me to ask if I could make her a caddy for her walker. I stopped at her place 10 minutes later with one I had made for DH when he had his knee replacement surgery. It was fun to surprise her with a gift and the poker fabric made her giggle.

I had 5 meetings, a phone consultation between my DH, his doctor and I, 2 trips to town for DH’s meds and groceries, but then was rewarded with two quilting days at my Guild; no wifi or cell service available, just quilters, news and fabric fun.

My Last To-Do Goals:

Another week filled with highs and lows, but I took advantage of the opportunity to unplug for a few hours twice this week and spent the better part of two days at the Guild, stitching, visiting and enjoying time with my quilting group. We were going to have two new participants, but the grandmother caught the nasty bug that’s going around and chose to stay home and not risk infecting the rest of us, so she and her granddaughter will try to make it next month.

First off, let’s see how I managed with my last week’s To Do Tuesday List:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and embroidery sampler. No progress 😢

2. Continue plugging away at the memory quilts for my son, granddaughters and Clarke’s family from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters and our Clarke’s clothing. A bit more stitching on these blocks was done. 😁

3. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise, with some additions from my stash, to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty. I managed to finish one of two projects in one bin, but can’t call it a finish since there is still one more project in there! 😉

4. Finish making the blocks from my crumb pieces once I find the right background. I’m thinking that lovely grey fabric I just bought might do the trick. Just need to check it out in daylight hours. No progress on this one. 😢

5. Get busy working on Gail from Quilting Gail’s Mystery QAL since it finished a while ago.. No progress here 😢

6. Keep working on the replacement green quilt 🤣 since I do have to gift it to our Treasurer at the Guild who is retiring next month and has been training me to do the job. Managed a bit of stitching on this one! 😁

This little quilt needs to be 48” x 84” 🤔

7. Assemble the flimsy from these blocks and add on the border. I managed to finish this to a flimsy. As of now I don’t think I’ll add any borders, but when I get closer to putting this on the long-arm, I just might change my mind. For now I’m counting it as a finish 😁✅

8. Continue fixing popped seams and stay stitching the edges of the next bin of quilt tops for Liz’s project if we can exchange bins this week.  I did manage to switch bins with Liz, but didn’t have time to get any photos of the quilt tops. I have permission to share some photos of this next bin of tops as I manage to get the popped seams fixed and edges stay stitched. 😁

9. Try to finish my latest start that Samantha enticed me to make since I’d like to take my Featherweight to use on Thursday and Saturday quilting days. 😁 I can claim another finish but it did cause me some grief. As I finished attaching the lid to the hinge my machine gave a loud crunch and my needle broke! I took it apart, got the end of the needle out and put a new needle in to work on another project. First stitch the needle broke again. My poor hard working Janome has a bent shaft and needs to go to the spa for some needed repairs. Luckily I have another Janome here at home, and the time now to learn to use my Featherweight. 😉✅

10. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿. Success! Sam was not able to side track me in spite of all of the intriguing projects I saw in last week’s To-Do Tuesday posts that linked to our party. 😉✅

This Week’s goals:

Now it’s time for my new To Do Tuesday List:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and embroidery sampler.

Stitchin’ Time

Kate from Life in Pieces hosts a weekly linky party to help us keep to our goals of stitching every day. I just love her new logo!

I’m trying for at least 30 minutes a day this year and 1 hour at the end of the week to tidy up and deal with my scraps. I wasn’t really off to a good start, but it is getting better as things settle down in my real life time and commitments lessen. 🤔

  • January 4/31
  • February 2/28
  • March 10/31
  • April 12/30
  • May 17/17
  • this week 7/7
  • Previous Total 38/130
  • Total: 45/137
  • Percentage = 32.85 %

I hope you all get to set and keep your goals for your Stitching Time and join Kate. 😁

Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash. If I can plan trips to the studio I expect my stash to be reduced terrifically when I start making backings for all of the quilt tops I’ve got to do. 🤩

  • Fabric Used: 3 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Previous Balance: 15 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this year: 9 yards
  • Balance in stash to use this year: 194 yards

* my goal is to lessen my stash by 200 yards this year. My goal this year is to use 200 yards of fabric from my stash. 😉

* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!

Design Wall Mondays

Judy, at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts, hosts a linky party for “Design Wall Mondays” every week.

I’m including some photos of my current WIPs;

My UFO and WIP List

Last but not least I have to update my UFO Speadsheet and then try keeping it up to date and so help with my accountability now that I have gone through everything in my storage room and sewing space. I’ve made some progress but still haven’t finished updating my list with my newly discovered/forgotten WIPs from my storage room bins and boxes. 😅

I use the spreadsheet that Quilting Gail shared several years ago, but I do need to update it!

In closing I’d like to thank you for visiting, for joining the To Do Tuesday linky party, for sharing the party link, and above all for being part of my quilting world. 🤗 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. Oh boy, what a week, I’m sorry for all that happened to your friends. Congratulations to Miss C!

You did managed to sew pretty well, I love the log cabin top, and the case tote, but sorry for the sewing machine. It’s great to have more than one machine in these cases!

Thank you for sharing and linking up, kisses and warm hugs to you.

  3. Wow, what a week, Carol! I truly hope everyone is starting to heal though it can be a long road for some of those injuries. Congrats to your granddaughter. I know the joy they (and we) get when they win in competition. Love your carrier for your featherweight. Have fun learning to use it. I am glad you have another Janome you can work on until you learn it. I have friends who swear by featherweights, but I’ve never been enticed! Thanks for joining us at Monday Musings.
