Sunday Summary #198

Hello and welcome to my Sunday Summary and To Do Tuesday List.

It’s been another fun filled week here in my part of the world; a few meetings, more appointments for my DH, and some stitching time every day. 😁

It’s getting closer to my Guild’s annual fundraiser on April 27 so we are busy with final preparations. I’ve been browsing recipes to try to find a fabulous desert (single portions or finger food) to make and I think I’ve settled on a carrot/squash soup with biscuits on the side. Our tea room is always a highlight with many of our local seniors and bachelors bringing in plastic containers to fill with reasonably priced goodies.

The sun has shone a bit almost every day and my DH has been able to play a few holes of golf. The course is starting to green up, and the snow has almost gone from the mountain tops.

The river is starting to rise since we have been getting rain almost every day! 😁

The new lease operators will open the clubhouse kitchen mid month, so I just have a bit more work to help set up the Pro Shop in our newly painted clubhouse.

My other news won’t be a surprise to many of you. Here in Canada it is our federal election day at the end of the month. I’ve been hired once again to supervise at one of our polling stations. I have a week to get organized before training starts. I’ve lined up friends to check on my DH and delivery for meals for the 4 days of advance polling and hopefully his son will come and spend some time with him as well. If the weather is nice he will have golfing partners aplenty.

My Last To-Do Goals:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and embroidery sampler as time and my eyesight allow. I have re-organized my hand stitching projects and set up a new light by my chair! 😉

2. Finish the pattern test. This is now a priority. Still no progress.

3. Continue plugging away at the memory quilts for my son, granddaughters and Clarke’s family from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL, granddaughters and our Clarke’s clothing. A bit of progress on a couple of more blocks! 😉

4. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise, with some additions from my stash, to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty. No progress. 😭

5. Finish making the test block from my crumb blocks to see if my design idea will work as I had planned. No progress 😢

6. Get caught up with Gail from Quilting Gail’s Mystery QAL since it’s finished a while ago.. No progress, but I’m keeping it on my list since the fabric is cut and I am in love with the palette. 😁

7. I have to remake it since I have to deliver a finished green quilt soon.  No progress 😢

This little quilt needs to be 48” x 84” when it’s done. Decisions need to be made how to add more borders! 🤔

8. Assemble these blocks to a flimsy and decide on adding borders at that time. The rows are sewn, just need to join the rows now and add the border. 😁

9. One of the members of our Guild had inherited a dear friend’s collection of quilt tops that she had made. Some of the fabrics were hand dyed by her friend and they had spent hours and hours together while stitching happened. All together there are over 200 flimsies. The edge blocks are starting to come apart and the edges hadn’t been stay stitched. Liz, my dear friend has decided she wants to hold a show and silent auction of a hundred or so of the tops to raise money for her local museum (as well as donating some tops), for our Guild and our local Rail Trail organizations. It’s a very ambitious project and Liz is 92 years old so several of us have stepped up to help her. I’m looking forward to sharing some photos of these amazing quilts. I’ve made progress and only have 6 more quilt tops from my first bin to fix popped seams and stay stitch the edges 🤣

10. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿. ✅ Try as she might, Sam wasn’t able to distract me from my list this week 🤣

This Week’s goals:

Now it’s time for my new To Do Tuesday List:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and embroidery sampler now that I can see and everything is tidy and organized again. .

2. Finish the pattern test.

3. Continue plugging away at the memory quilts for my son, granddaughters and Clarke’s family from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters and our Clarke’s clothing.😁

4. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise, with some additions from my stash, to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty.

5. Finish making the test block from my crumb blocks to see if my design idea will work as I had planned.

6. Get caught up with Gail from Quilting Gail’s Mystery QAL since it finished a while ago.. 🤩

7. Get started on re-making this flimsy or another pattern I just came across 🤣 since I do have to deliver a green quilt to our Treasurer at the Guild who is retiring next month and has been training me to do the job. 😭

This little quilt needs to be 48” x 84” 🤔

8. Assemble the flimsy from these blocks and add on the border.

9. Continue fixing popped seams and stay stitching the edges of the first bin of quilt tops for Liz’s project.

10. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿.

Stitchin’ Time

Kate from Life in Pieces hosts a weekly linky party to help us keep to our goals of stitching every day. I just love her new logo!

I’m trying for at least 30 minutes a day this year and 1 hour at the end of the week to tidy up and deal with my scraps. I wasn’t really off to a good start, but it is getting better as things settle down in my real life time and commitments lessen. 🤔

  • January 4/31
  • February 2/28
  • March 10/29
  • this week 7/7
  • Previous Total 9/81
  • Total: 16/88
  • Percentage = 18.18 %

I hope you all get to set and keep your goals for your Stitching Time and join Kate. 😁

Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash. If I can plan trips to the studio I expect my stash to be reduced terrifically when I start making backings for all of the quilt tops I’ve got to do. 😁

  • Fabric Used: 0 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Previous Balance: 12 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this year: 0 yards
  • Balance in stash to use this year: 188 yards

* my goal is to lessen my stash by 200 yards this year. My goal this year is to use 200 yards of fabric from my stash. 😉

* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!

Design Wall Mondays

Judy, at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts, hosts a linky party for “Design Wall Mondays” every week.

I’m including some photos of my current WIPs;

My UFO and WIP List

Last but not least I have to update my UFO Speadsheet and then try keeping it up to date and so help with my accountability now that I have gone through everything in my storage room and sewing space. I’ve made some progress but still haven’t finished updating my list with my newly discovered/forgotten WIPs from my storage room bins and boxes. 😅

I use the spreadsheet that Quilting Gail shared several years ago, but I do need to update it!

In closing I’d like to thank you for visiting, for joining the To Do Tuesday linky party, for sharing the party link, and above all for being part of my quilting world. 🤗 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. Well, I am not at all surprised that your voting people want you…you do so much! I kept losing your posts, so I am glad you are at the top of my in box today. You have so many great sewing projects and the last one, that is a biggie. Glad to hear good weather is coming your way, we are so ready for spring in Maine, having a snow/ice/rain event for the last 3 days is quite boring!

    1. Hi Mia. Being busy is good for my mental health these days = no time to think of the crazy world outside my sewing space. I’ll take some photos of my hand stitching organization in my post next week so you can have a giggle 🤭

      1. We can say the same since it’s our federal election this month here in Canada. All I can say is I understand and I’m afraid we might be in the same boat here soon 😒

  2. Congrats on getting in some significant stitching time and making a dent in your to do list. Sounds Like April will be busy too, hopefully you can still carve out some time for a bit of stitching.

  3. I’m with you in the challenge right now to balalnce “Life and Community To Dos” with “Crafting To Dos”! And yes, keeping the squirrels at bay is a must right now — but boy do they tempt, LOL!! Will love to see some of the tops for the quilters estate auction. Will the auction be online or only for local bidders? I have seen the tip about stay sitching your quilt top edges but admit I’ve only done it once for a top that really had a lot of seams at the edge. I think I will start doing that for all my tops from here on in. We always think we will get to them quickly but how much easier is it for someone else to pick up the project if they don’t have to embark on “patching the patchwork” first!

    1. Hi Vivian. I know I’ve learned with doing the repairs on some of these tops to do the stay stitching on my pieces. I’ve done it often before but now I’m going to be more diligent to to it with them all if there are no borders and the pieced blocks go right to the edge or if the top is on point.
I think Liz is planning on having some of the tops in an on line sale as well local. The plan so far is to hang some of them along our Rail Trail system so everyone can hike our beautiful country while they get to view the quilts.

      1. Hanging the tops along the hiking trail — what a wonderful idea! Those hiking vistas would probably also be great backdrops for the auction catalog pictures too!
