Sunday Summary #189

Hello and welcome to my Sunday Summary and my To Do Tuesday List.

It’s been busy these past two weeks. I had a Fundraiser to organize/host at the Golf Club and in the evening after the Fundraiser wound up going to the hospital with DH. He was there for a couple of days, but came home and is doing okay. He will be seeing a Vascular Surgeon to fix this latest issue.

Then we had a lovely storm come through and a power outage for 14 hours. Good thing we happen to have plenty of quilts so we were able to stay warm with no heat in the building.

Add to the fun we were invited to attend a Christmas Party where we had a lively round of the secret Santa/steal a gift game. DH opened his gift first one up. He had a winch and I had to wait for an hour for someone to steal it! Then it rapidly became the most popular gift with it being stolen (and stolen back by spouses!) a total of 9 times. Made me happy because I didn’t want to carry that heavy beast to the car, but it would have been a fun add on to DH’s son’s Christmas gift! 😉

My other bit of fun was receiving a Secret Santa parcel for a fun exchange which is hosted through the Canadian Quilter FB page. I had never participated before but decided it would be fun this year.

Samantha is guarding my pile of quilty treasures until Christmas Eve when I will open these very anticipated treasures! 🤶🏻

My Last To-Do Goals:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and embroidery sampler as time and my eyesight allow. No progress. 😢

2. Try to finish binding the six now 2 quilts. Making progress; bindings are machine sewn to the quilts. Just need to finish hand stitching them now! 😃

3. Continue plugging away at the memory quilts for my son, granddaughters and Clarke’s family from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters and our Clarke’s clothing. No progress these two weeks. 🫣

4. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise, with some additions from my stash, to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty. No progress! 😢

5. Finish making the blocks from my crumb blocks now that Monique has handed me another huge bag of brightly coloured scraps. No progress other than cutting some pieces. 😢

6. Continue to work on the commission quilt. The flimsy is now finished! Just need to get to the studio to get it on the long arm. Cutting this close! 😳

7. Finish the pattern test if I get the next set of instructions. Making progress! 😁

8. Get this quilt quilted and bound this week. quilting is done and I’m just finishing the binding. 😁

9. Get caught up with Gail from Quilting Gail’s Mystery QAL. Didn’t manage any more progress yet! 😢

10. Start piecing the borders to get this to a finished flimsy. I need to have it quilted and the binding and label on asap. No progress on the piecing yet 😭

This little quilt needs to be 48” x 84” when it’s done. Decisions need to be made how to add more borders! 🤔

11. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿 I managed to avoid the many temptations Sam put in front of me and kept to my list! 😁

This Week’s goals:

This week we get to celebrate DH’s birthday (the power outage cancelled last week’s dinner on his real birthday), I’m taking him to town for his first cataract surgery on Christmas Eve Day, spend our Christmas together (which he refuses to acknowledge🤔) and enjoy our winter wonderland. If we are lucky we won’t have any more power outages, but there is more snow in the forecast. 🫣Christmas

Now it’s time for my new To Do Tuesday List:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and embroidery sampler as time and my eyesight allow.

2. Try to finish binding the two quilts to get my footstool cleared off before I start filling it up again with a Needs Binding pile. 🤔

3. Continue plugging away at the memory quilts for my son, granddaughters and Clarke’s family from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters and our Clarke’s including the more than 50 more shirts that have arrived! 😁

4. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise, with some additions from my stash, to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty.

5. Finish making the blocks from my crumb blocks now that Monique has handed me another huge bag of brightly coloured scraps. 😉

6. Quilt and bind the commission quilt.

It is a large queen size! I love Lonestars. 😁

7. Finish the pattern test.

8. Get this quilt quilted and bound this week.

9. Get caught up with Gail from Quilting Gail’s Mystery QAL. 🤩

10. Start piecing the borders to get this to a finished flimsy. I need to have it quilted and the binding and label on as soon as possible. I’m late with this one.🤔

11. I need to get myself organized because Gail from Quilting Gail just announced that she and several of my favourite bloggers are going to do what to me signals the start of the year! Yes the SAHRR 2025 will be starting in January!

Just click on the logo to get the info on this fun QAL!

12. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿.

Stitchin’ Time

Kate from Life in Pieces hosts a weekly linky party to help us keep to our goals of stitching every day.

I’m trying for at least 30 minutes a day this year and 1 hour at the end of the week to tidy up and deal with my scraps. I wasn’t really off to a good start, but it is getting better as things settle down in my real life time and commitments lessen. 🤔

  • January 21/31
  • February 27/29
  • March 27/31
  • April 20/30
  • May 26/31
  • June 22/30
  • July 31/31
  • August 24/31
  • September 30/30
  • October 31/31
  • Nov. 29/30
  • December 21/31
  • these 2 weeks 10/14
  • Previous Total 290/342
  • Total: 300/356
  • Percentage = 84.27 %

At this rate, I won’t get back up to 85 % by the end of the year but I’m content with my stars considering how busy this year has been! I hope you all get to set and keep your goals for your Stitching Time and join Kate. 😁

Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash. If I can plan a trip to the studio I expect my stash to be reduced terrifically when I start making backings for all of the quilt tops I’ve got to do. 😁

  • Fabric Used: 27 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Previous Balance: – 3 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this year: 0 yards
  • Balance in stash to use this year: -39 yards

* my goal is to lessen my stash by 100 yards this year. All of my fabric used this week was gifted or from my scrap bins so none counts. So far I have managed to decrease my stash by 139 yards. 😉

* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. So sorry about your power outage, Carol. Glad you and DH will be able to celebrate his birthday this week before more snow comes. I hope the surgery goes well. I love that Lone Star quilt! It is gorgeous! I hope you have a great week and a very Merry Christmas!
