Sunday Summary #186

It’s Sunday and I’ve had another crazy week filled with fabric fun, stitching time and a crazy weird experience to tell you about.

On Wednesday our power went out about 7:30 pm and didn’t come back until 6:00 Thursday morning. Yes, it was the effect of the Cyclone Bomb! Now that’s not too unusual for winter but the adventure I had when I went to the Guild to set everything up for our quilting day sure was. I had gone early since I knew I’d have to shovel the walks. I hauled my machine and projects in, grabbed the keys to go get the shovel out of the back shed. The back door was unlocked which surprised me. I went out to the back shed and it was unlocked and wide open! It really surprised me, but there were fresh footprints (it had snowed during the night) so I thought a Board member had come by to drop something in the shed. As I was going back in the door I realized the deadbolt was broken. I looked at it and saw the door frame was cracked. I stopped and took a look at the footprints and they went all around the back of the building. Have you guessed what had happened yet? Our Guild had been broken in to! 😡. I checked where we have a tin that our members drop a toonie in when they are attending members days or Gab’n Jab or class fees are paid. The tin and cash was gone!

I locked up and headed over to one of the Board members who lives near by to get her to phone the RCMP and notify Board Members (we don’t have cell service here and no internet at the Guild) and then went back to the Guild because quilters would soon be arriving.

When some Board members arrived I suggest they not disturb the footprints until the RCMP officers had been there, but they were busy checking everything out. The key for the back shed was where it belonged. The keys for our new shed were gone and the shed with all of the donations for our fundraiser was unlocked.

Then one of our local handymen showed up and started fixing the doorframe and replacing the deadbolt and adding another one. He then replaced the lock set on the new shed. It was all done and our quilters had all left before the policeman arrived. The joys of living in a rural area sure held true that day!

In spite of that I did have a good week. Only had to take DH to town twice, I only had 3 meetings, but I was rewarded with two quilting days at the Guild. DH calls it my happy place with having no cell service or internet. I get to sew and visit with my friend’s uninterrupted 😁

My Last To-Do Goals:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and embroidery sampler as time and my eyesight allow. No progress. 😢

2. Try to finish binding the six quilts. I’ve made some progress. Almost finished another one.😃

3. Finish the memory quilts for my son and granddaughters from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters and our Clarke’s clothing. I think that I’ll have 4 or 5 more when I’m done. I was given more t-shirts by my son.! 😁

4. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise, with some additions from my stash, to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty. No progress! 😢

5. Finish making the blocks from my crumb blocks before Monique hands me another bag of Tula Pink scraps. No progress😢

6. Finish assembling this quilt top. I have it assembled, or rather I did have it finished; now I think I need to add borders and make it larger! You know I like big quilts! I’ll think about it and check my stash for fabric if I do decide to add to it.😉

7. Start on the commission quilt. I’m making progress. I’ve managed some stitching time on this. 🤣

8. Finish the pattern test if I get the next set of blocks. I’ve started cutting for the next blocks! 😁

9. Keep working on the project for the final Hop of the year (my all time favourite hop) which is being hosted by Carol from Just Let Me Quilt. Start going through my recipes to see which one I’ll share and of course that means I’ll have to test drive the recipe to make sure it’s as good as it used to be! I’ve almost finished my blocks and DH has been happily taste testing my baking! 😉

10. Get caught up with Gail from Quilting Gail’s Mystery QAL. Didn’t manage any more progress yet! 😢

11. Start piecing the borders to get this to a finished flimsy. I need to have it quilted and the binding and label on by Dec. 4. No progress on the piecing yet 😭

This little quilt needs to be 48” x 84” when it’s done. Decisions need to be made how to add more borders! 🤔

12. Write a pattern and prep kits for the Pojagi Quilting class I’ll be teaching at my Guild. Everything is ready! 😁

13. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿 Done! 😁

This Week’s goals:

This week is looking quieter with only 2 meetings and 1 town trip. If all goes well, I might even make it to the studio for two or three days with my Longarm. Our friends that keep an eye on DH are back from his having his surgery to remove the nasal melanoma. The best news is the surgeon is confident they got it all. Another example that prayers can work. 😁

Now it’s time for my new To Do Tuesday List:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and embroidery sampler as time and my eyesight allow.

2. Try to finish binding the six quilts. 🤔

3. Continue plugging away at the memory quilts for my son, granddaughters and Clarke’s family from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters and our Clarke’s clothing.

4. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise, with some additions from my stash, to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty.

5. Finish making the blocks from my crumb blocks now that Monique has handed me another huge bag of brightly coloured scraps. 😉

6. Continue to work on the commission quilt.

7. Finish the pattern test if I get the next set of instructions..

8. Finish the project for the final Hop of the year (my all time favourite hop) which is being hosted by Carol from Just Let Me Quilt. Decide which of my recipes so I can quit test driving every recipe I use! I’ve gained 5 pounds d😉

9. Get caught up with Gail from Quilting Gail’s Mystery QAL. 🤩

10. Start piecing the borders to get this to a finished flimsy. I need to have it quilted and the binding and label on by Dec. 4. 🤔

11. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿.

Stitchin’ Time

Kate from Life in Pieces hosts a weekly linky party to help us keep to our goals of stitching every day.

I’m trying for at least 30 minutes a day this year and 1 hour at the end of the week to tidy up and deal with my scraps. I wasn’t really off to a good start, but it is getting better as things settle down in my real life time and commitments lessen. 🤔

  • January 21/31
  • February 27/29
  • March 27/31
  • April 20/30
  • May 26/31
  • June 22/30
  • July 31/31
  • August 24/31
  • September 30/30
  • October 31/31
  • Nov. 22/23
  • this week 7/7
  • Previous Total 269/321
  • Total: 276/328
  • Percentage = 84.15 %

At this rate, I might get back up to 85 % by the end of the year! I hope you all get to set and keep your goals for your Stitching Time and join Kate. 😁

Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash. If I can plan a trip to the studio I expect my stash to be reduced terrifically when I start making backings for all of the quilt tops I’ve got to do. 😁

  • Fabric Used: 0 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Previous Balance: – 3 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this year: 0 yards
  • Balance in stash to use this year: -3 yards

* my goal is to lessen my stash by 100 yards this year. All of my fabric used this week was gifted or from my scrap bins so none counts. So far I have managed to decrease my stash by 103 yards. 😉

* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!

Design Wall Mondays

Judy, at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts, hosts a linky party for “Design Wall Mondays” every week.

I’m including some photos of my current WIPs;

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

    1. Thanks Brenda. I never thought of what could have happened if that nasty soul was still there but I’m sure glad they weren’t! I just found out I have had another meeting scheduled and possibly an MRI for DH (they will confirm tomorrow) so it’s doubtful I’ll get to visit my longarm. Oh well, maybe next week. 😉 Carol

  1. Do the police have any leads on who the thief might be? Everyone in the guild has to be really disappointed. You had a good week with your stitching time even though you missed your sew day with the guild. Good luck with this week’s to do list.

    1. Kate they have footprints but couldn’t get fingerprints because of all of the aboard members and quilters that are using the Guild almost every day. Our community is angry and upset about the situation since our little building is a center of community events and creativity. Luckily stitching time continues in spite of real life 🤗
