Something Wicked

Well here it is my turn to share my post for a fun hop. I always love seeing what fun themes Carol and Joan come up with and will surely miss not doing hops that they are hosting!

Now you all know that my DH is a Grinch and doesn’t celebrate Christmas. Well he also doesn’t enjoy Halloween, but gets away with it since we have never yet had one little Trick or Treater come visiting here at the golf course. I always have treats on hand just in case, but then DH and I have to eat them after Halloween. Sort of reminds me of pilfering all of the Caramels and Candy kisses from my kids goodie bags since they didn’t like them 😃

Now for this hop Carol challenged us to jump on our brooms and do something wicked!

I have a couple of little (lol) projects to share for your spooky entertainment.

I don’t usually do a lot of seasonal decorations, because, well, you know……the husband. So I had to come up with different ideas and the first one was inspired by the logo and a favourite daughter in law’s color preference. this daughter in law has a huge dining table in the farmhouse. She is somewhat old fashioned and uses tablecloths, runners and even cloth napkins every day. I’m lucky enough to have this amazing women for a daughter in law because she encourages and appreciates my quilty gifts. I’d not made her a new runner for a while and had seen a photo on line that had me intrigued. Out came my black and white scraps (and a few fat quarters if I’m honest😁). I had to work from my memory of the photo (no I hadn’t saved it 😳) and had to start over or get Jack out numerous times, but I’m so happy with the wickedly complex project.

Next up is a fun little pattern test I volunteered to do for a fun designer that I adore. I’ve made many of her patterns and have always found them to be well written and easy to follow. The test I did was for a modification she did to one of her patterns.

Sandra Healy Designs is a great site to go to for so many fun patterns and her Halloween blocks are just too much fun.

Last of all I had to share what has become an obsession for me.

These kitchen towels are so easy and so much fun to make!

All you need for these is a kitchen hand towel and a pot holder. Make a fabric loop. Attach it to one side of the pot holder. Then fold the pot holder in half (I use a chalk marker to mark a line). The sew the towel which is folded in half on that line. Then all you need to do is find a color co-ordinated button to sew on the front of the pot holder. These hand rowels that hang from the oven handle are always welcomed by my kids (and now grandkids) and I get to indulge my love of seasonal decor by filling their homes with new ones every so often. So far we have barbecue season, farming/harvest season, Halloween and Red Truck and Gnome season covered! 😉. I love seeing the grands and great grands running around the kitchen and using the hand towels. 2 of my grands have already had sewing lessons on how to make these and made some for thank you gifts for teachers and friends! Makes this Nana proud. 😊

Now I’ll share the full list of participants so you can visit any one you’ve perhaps missed.

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. I love that table topper. Your memory served you well. That looks like a tough one to work thru. Sweet little pumpkin blocks. I did hop over to her website and she has some adorable blocks. I am definitely bookmarking it for future reference. Great job Nana in inspiring a new generation!

  2. That table topper is a masterpiece for a table…love it! The shape perfectly wicked for Halloween. I’ve seen some of Sandra Healy designs, but not these cute pumpkins. The frowny face one is for your husband, right? LOL My husband likes Halloween, but he always complains about how we are going to store the decorations. Such a silly and minor detail! What a great idea for the potholder and towel. So clever, Carol! As always, you have shared some very inspiring and creative projects. Thank you for being a part of my quilting life. xo

    1. Thank you Carol for your years inspiring us all to get busy and find things to match the fun themes you all come up with. I had fun challenging myself to figure out the table topper and yes, I do need to make something with the frowns pumpkin for my hubby! Those towels make up quickly and are fun little gifts for family and friends! 🤗
