Sunday Summary #180

Hello and welcome to this week’s edition of my crazy life!

I started the week at the studio, spending time with D and playing with my favourite machines. I also helped D do a bit more winter prep, sweeping driveways and carrying up bins of decorations. D likes to decorate for every season and special holidays. We transitioned fall to Hallowe’en and of course next up is Christmas (as hard as it is to realize how close we are and how fast it’s coming!) 😉

I had fun at the studio and I had picked up some Glide thread to see if my Avante liked it any better than the various cotton threads I had been using trying out. It worked very well and my machine was happy; not even 1 thread break! The only time I had to bury threads was when my bobbin thread ran out. I still lose every time at Bobbin Chicken 🤣.

The good news is in less than a week I long armed 4 quilts (a king size, 2 larger throws, and an extra large baby quilt), pieced a flimsy, and made 86 log cabin blocks beside taking D for tests and doctor’s appointments and doing winter prep! The photo in my header is from one morning’s view while we were having breakfast! 😁

I had to take D to the hospital Tuesday evening for a test at 7:30. I dropped her off at the hospital and went and filled up my car with gas and grabbed a coffee to take with me. My plan was to take D home, load up and then head home since I had appointments with DH on Wednesday. I ran in to a grocery store to grab a couple of pieces of fruit for snacks. When I came out my car wouldn’t start and I had weird messages on the screen. I wasn’t too stressed since I carry a booster pack in my car and it has been well used. I threw it on the car and waited for the green light…..no go. Then D called and let me know she was done. I told her what was going on and told her I’d be there shortly. I went to all BCAA and discovered my account had expired. Called D back. She had hers so I caught a ride from a very nice young couple to the hospital. We called BCAA and the tow truck driver picked D, her Walker and myself at the hospital. Went to the car and when he boosted it, it started. I ended up getting home at 4:30 in the morning so I was able to get 3 hours sleep before I had to get DH on the road to town 😅 So I now know I need my BCAA, a new battery pack and my Drivers License when I head to town tomorrow for another day of Election training. I ask you, how is it possible for one person to continue having so much drama and excitement in her life? What have I ever done to deserve this? 🤔

My Last To-Do Goals:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and embroidery sampler as time and my eyesight allow. No progress. 😢

2. Try to finish binding the eight now seven quilts. I added to the Needs Binding pile, but I did get a finish as well! 😅

3. Finish the memory quilts for my son and granddaughters from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters and our Clarke’s clothing. No progress on these quilts this week 😢

4. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise, with some additions from my stash, to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty. No progress! 😢

5. Finish making the blocks from my crumb blocks before Monique hands me another bag of Tula Pink scraps. No progress😢

6. Finish my project for the next hop. I’m making progress!😉

7. Start assembling this quilt top. No progress on this one this week 😢

8. Start on the commission quilt. I’m still cutting 🤣

9. Keep playing with my jelly roll quilt. I’ve made some progress; I have a flimsy and it’s already been claimed by a Guildmate so I need to get it quilted asap! 🤣

This is what I used my jelly roll leftovers for! I love stacked blocks! 🥰

10. Get organized to do the pattern test. I’m done this one, will write about it soon and am just waiting for the pattern to do another one! 😉

11. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿. I get a check mark here! Try as she might Sam couldn’t side track me (much) from my list! 😉

I can share a photo of the log cabin quilt blocks I also started to keep at the studio in case I don’t remember to take anything with me to work on between long arming! 😅

This Week’s goals:

This week I have a couple of meetings, DH has his consultation for his cataract surgery and I’m doing training for this year’s Provincial Election. I’m also going to spend time at my Guild, helping to put back all of the equipment and supplies that had to be moved out to get the new flooring put in.

It’s so much nicer than the orange and green Marmoleum that was installed in the 1930’s!

Then next Saturday and Sunday I’ll be supervising an Advance Polling Station from 6:30 am until 9:00 pm. Then the following week I will have one last day of training and then go back in to the Electoral Office to do the final count. That should finish off my obligations for the year unless anything unexpected happens at the Golf Club AGM or if a Federal Election gets called 🤔

Now it’s time for my new To Do Tuesday List:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and embroidery sampler as time and my eyesight allow.

2. Try to finish binding the seven quilts. 🤔

3. Finish the memory quilts for my son, granddaughters and Clarke’s family from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters and our Clarke’s clothing.

4. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise, with some additions from my stash, to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty.

5. Finish making the blocks from my crumb blocks before Monique hands me another bag of Tula Pink scraps. 😉

6. Finish my project for the next blog hop.

7. Start assembling this quilt top:

8. Start on the commission quilt.

9. Get organized to do the next pattern test. 😅

10. Start planning for the next (and sadly the last of the blog hops) hosted by Joan of Moosestash Quilting and Carol of Just Let Me Quilt.

11. Did you see that our friend Gail from Quilting Gail is doing one of her Mystery QAL’s? Just click on her name or the logo below to go see the fabric requirements for all the fun. It’s really fun that Gail is doing this right now. The sweet blue, green and d cream quilt I just finished quilting is one of Gail’s Mystery Quilts. I’ll write more about it when I get the binding done. 🤩

12. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿.

Stitchin’ Time

Kate from Life in Pieces hosts a weekly linky party to help us keep to our goals of stitching every day.

I’m trying for at least 30 minutes a day this year and 1 hour at the end of the week to tidy up and deal with my scraps. I wasn’t really off to a good start, but it is getting better as things settle down in my real life time and commitments lessen. 🤔

  • January 21/31
  • February 27/29
  • March 27/31
  • April 20/30
  • May 26/31
  • June 22/30
  • July 31/31
  • August 24/31
  • September 30/30
  • October 5/31
  • this week 7/7
  • Previous Total 226/272
  • Total: 233/279
  • Percentage = 83.51 %

At this rate, I might get back up to 85 or even 90% by the end of the year! I hope you all get to set and keep your goals for your Stitching Time and join Kate. 😁

Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash. If I can plan a trip to the studio I expect my stash to be reduced terrifically when I start making backings for all of the quilt tops I’ve got to do. 😁

  • Fabric Used: 14 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Previous Balance: 20 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this year: 0 yards
  • Balance in stash to use this year: 6 yards

* my goal is to lessen my stash by 100 yards this year. I haven’t managed to actually figure out how much fabric I really have in my stash, but I have reduced my stash these past few years and only purchase fabric if I need it for a particular project. If I do purchase fabric I add it to my Balance in stash to use this year in order to continue reducing my stash. 😉

* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!

Design Wall Mondays

Judy, at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts, hosts a linky party for “Design Wall Mondays” every week.

I’m including some photos of my current WIPs;

PHD in 2024

This year you can join the fun and challenge at Ms P Designs USA 😉

I should get some finishes on this this week! 😁

Thank you for stopping by and reading my post. Your comments make my day and I do reply to each one. 😉 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

    1. Thank you Wendy. It really is getting to the point I just shake my head and keep putting one foot in front of the other. At least we don’t have the horrid weather like your poor country is suffering with.

    1. Hi Karin. I’m not sure how I do it now. I used to be a one project at a time person. I think it might have something to do with my sewing corner being 4’ from the tv and DH being a channel flipper? The more he flips the more distracted I become so I switch from project to project? lol. 😂

  1. Car trouble when you are on the road is never fun. So glad you were able to manage it all. Congrats on all the progress on last week’s to do list. Hopefully you’ve already had a chance to make a lot of progress on this weeks.
