Sunday Summary #173

What a crazy ride this past week was; full of highs and some not quite as high moments. The Evacuation Order for the village of Slocan was downgraded to an alert so many people were allowed to return home. The center was filled with happy faces, tears and so many hugs. Then were heard the stories of damaged properties, but thankfully only 5 homes were lost. Family and friends have stepped up with offers of homes or apartments for all of the families that will have to rebuild.

Our Resiliency was closed on Friday and we managed to get the last of the food to the food bank and the leftover produce to a friend that had stayed on his evacuated property to take care of his pigs. He has managed to move the rest of the animals but had no place to take the pigs to. They were happy, he said, for a feed of veggies, bread and outdated milk. 😁

I took Thursday and Saturday off from all electronics to be at my Guild for some much needed Quilting days. It was so wonderful to see my quilty friends that had or had not been evacuated.

My Last To-Do Goals:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and embroidery sampler as time and my eyesight allow. No progress as my vision is getting worse and fine stitching is too difficult to see. I think handwork will have to be limited to binding quilts for the foreseeable future. 😢

2. Try to finish binding the four now five quilts. I’m still down to only 3” left on the quilt I take with me to the center, having had no time to sit and stitch.🤗

3. Finish the memory quilts for my son and granddaughters from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters. I’ve made no progress 😢

One down; 3 or 4 to go! 🤣

4. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise and the Tula Pink scraps from Monique, with some additions from my stash, to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty. I have managed to finish piecing and trimming the 48 crumb blocks I need for the quilt I’ve planned. 😁

5. Start planning my project for another blog hop.

6. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿. 😁 Samantha decided I needed to start another project from my stack of project bins while I had two glorious quilting days at my Guild, 😁

This Week’s goals:

Now it’s time for my new To Do Tuesday List which I should make some progress on since I have 2 scheduled quilting days at the Guild.

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and embroidery sampler as time and my eyesight allow.

2. Try to finish binding the four now five quilts. 😉

3. Finish the memory quilts for my son, granddaughters and Clarke’s family from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters and our Clarke’s clothing.

4. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise, with some additions from my stash, to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty.

5. Keep making crumb blocks until I can start using them for my next quilt.

6. Start planning my project for another blog hop.

Stitchin’ Time

Kate from Life in Pieces hosts a weekly linky party to help us keep to our goals of stitching every day.

I’m trying for at least 30 minutes a day this year and 1 hour at the end of the week to tidy up and deal with my scraps. I wasn’t really off to a good start, but it is getting better as things settle down in my real life time and commitments lessen. 🤔

  • January 21/31
  • February 27/29
  • March 27/31
  • April 20/30
  • May 26/31
  • June 22/30
  • July 31/31
  • August 10/17
  • this week 7/7
  • Previous Total 177/212
  • Total: 184/219
  • Percentage = 84.02 %

I hope you all get to set and keep your goals for your Stitching Time and join Kate. 😁

Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash. If I can plan a trip to the studio I expect my stash to be reduced terrifically when I start making backings for all of the quilt tops I’ve got to do. 😁

  • Fabric Used: 0 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Previous Balance: 63 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this year: 0 yards
  • Balance in stash to use this year: 63 yards

* my goal is to lessen my stash by 100 yards this year. I haven’t managed to actually figure out how much fabric I really have in my stash, but I have reduced my stash these past few years and only purchase fabric if I need it for a particular project. If I do purchase fabric I add it to my Balance in stash to use this year in order to continue reducing my stash. 😉

* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!

Design Wall Mondays

Judy, at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts, hosts a linky party for “Design Wall Mondays” every week.

I’m including some photos of my project bins filled some of the fun little blocks, bits and pieces and fabric that Denise sent to me, and my orphan blocks and fabric from my stash, that I’m working playing with to come up with some new quilts for an upcoming charity event;

PHD in 2024

This year you can join the fun and challenge at Ms P Designs USA 😉

Thank you for stopping by and reading my post. Your comments make my day and I do reply to each one. 😉 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. So glad to hear they’ve made enough ground on the fire to allow people to go home. So sad for those that lost homes, but it sounds like they have good friends and families to help them recover. Hope you get in some R&R along with some stitching time. You’ve definitely been busy the last few weeks.

    1. Hi Kate. It has been sad to see the results of the fire but so heartening to see our community pull together and helping each other. Life is starting to settle in to a “normal” routine again 🙏🏻

  2. Glad to hear that the center was closed, people could return home and no food went to waster (happy piggies). Also, great that you were able to sew for a few days…and I don’t blame Samantha for picking a project to get back to. Sometimes we need that inspo! You worked hard, be easy on yourself.

  3. Such a tragedy, but so thankful no lives were lost, Carol. People can rebuild, though it’s a tough economy for that, but you just can’t replace a life. Glad the piggies were safe too! I know you were happy to sew for a couple of days. That distraction really helps in times like these. Have a great week.
