Just a quick note to let you all know that while I am still managing to rep stitching, I’ve been busy helping friends and family evacuate due to the 3 wildfires in my immediate vicinity.
I’m working at one of the local resiliency centres and I’m expecting it to get busier since another community, the Town of Slocan was just given Evacuation orders. I might be late posting the To Do Tuesday Linky Party if our internet tower burns.
DH and I are not yet on Alert but since the newest Evacuation Order covers properties two miles from us, I am expecting it at any time. Bug out bags are packed as are a machine and some project kits.
The resiliency Center is 2 miles from home and has wifi so I will be in constant communication with DH
Say a prayer for my part of the world if you can. I love our little valley and each of the towns and villages here. Please also say a prayer for the people of Jasper who have been so devastated by wildfire this year and for the valiant firefighters who are working so hard to keep us safe.
300 Australians arrived here today to bolster our crews and get more boots on the ground. ❤️

We have haze from your wildfires, so you are often on my mind, as well as those around you. Be safe, and keep us posted as you can!

Thank you Kate. No rain so far. Another town 7 miles away evacuated but I’m still not on an evacuation alert. Praying that the rain they are forecasting comes in a heavy enough downfall to help. 🙏

You seem to be well prepared, in any case. You said projects and machine packed — is there electricity and a work surface for sewing at the emergency shelter? This must be so unbelievably stressful for everyone in your community. We will all be thinking of you and praying for the safety of the firefighters and for everyone in harm’s path.

Thank you Rebecca. In our part of the world, in the event of a disaster our system allows us the option of going to a shelter, going to a hotel if there are rooms available or staying with family or friends or camping in trailers if we have them. Since my DH has MS we would likely either go to a hotel (it’s peak tourist season so hotels are still full) or travel a few hundred miles to be with family. It is a stressful situation, but helping at the Resiliency Center, helping friends to pack up has helped keep me occupied and I’m never further away than 5 minutes from DH.

Thank you Deb. It was heartbreaking to see Jasper damaged, watch the drama as Wells/Barkerville were threatened and have so many family and friends have to pack up and leave their homes. 🤗

Carol, I just saw this and did not realize you were so close to the fires. Hope you are safe and sound at this point! Wildfires have started in Colorado now, too – it is so hot and dry here. Scary times. Take care, and hope you get some sewing therapy!

Thank you Diann. I have been indulging in fabric therapy every day to keep calm . Please take care of yourself and try to stay indoors. That smoke is so hard on our bodies.
