Sunday Summary #167

Hello everyone. I hope you’ve all recovered from celebrating our respective Country’s annual holidays. If you were fortunate enough to have family visiting, I hope your time was filled with laughter and fun, and parades and fireworks if you had any happening in your part of the world.

Yesterday I had word from my DIL that Beryl had gone through their little community, but thankfully all she had to contend with was water on the main level floors and landscaping that I’d going to need some serious TLC. I can only pray that no one is injured as Beryl moves a,one and unfortunately picks up strength.

For us here in this part of BC we are expecting another heat dome to settle in over us for a few days. DH doesn’t function well with the heat. It puts him on tilt. He’s now getting up at 5:00 am so he can play a couple of holes before it gets warm. I’ve made him a little ice pack that he can put in the crown of his hat to help keep his body temp down a bit.

I managed to get an update from the specialist’s receptionist. It could be 5 months before I get in for a consultation to get my eye surgery. It’s crazy to have to wait that long for a 5 minute consultation and then who knows how long before I get the actual procedure done. 🤔

So in the meantime I’ll keep working on patterns that aren’t too intricate and do a bit of hand sewing as I can. I’m paring down my projects on my ToDo List since sewing by machine or hand can bring on a headache if I do it for too long. I’m alternating between stitching bindings, piecing projects and joining blocks throughout the day.

My Last To-Do Goals:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and embroidery sampler as time and my eyesight allow. Still not doing much handwork 🤓

2. Get caught up with the Rainbow Neighbourhood QAL hosted by Sandra Walker from MMM Quilts, so I can start working on her new Luminous Layers QAL! For now I’m going to put Sandra’s two QAL’s on the back burned until I can see again. Sigh! More additions to my UFO list 😢

3. Try to finish binding the four now five quilts. Almost finished one side of one quilt! 🤓

4. Finish the memory quilts for my son and granddaughters from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters. I’m starting to sew the blocks together since I finally am satisfied with the layouts! 🤪

One down; 3 or 4 to go! 🤣

5. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise to use up more bits and pieces, and adding my orphan blocks and bits and some fabrics from my stash. I finished another flimsy from these bins! 😁

6. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿. I managed to keep Samantha in check this week! 🤪

This Week’s goals:

Now it’s time for my new To Do Tuesday List:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and embroidery sampler as time and my eyesight allow.

2. Try to finish binding the four now five quilts. 😉

3. Finish the memory quilts for my son and granddaughters from a collection of T-shirts from my son, DIL and granddaughters.

4. Keep playing with the orphan blocks and goodies from Denise to use up more bits and pieces until those project boxes are empty.

5. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿

Stitchin’ Time

Kate from Life in Pieces hosts a weekly linky party to help us keep to our goals of stitching every day.

I’m trying for at least 30 minutes a day this year and 1 hour at the end of the week to tidy up and deal with my scraps. I wasn’t really off to a good start, but it is getting better as things settle down in my real life time and commitments lessen. 🤔

  • January 21/31
  • February 27/29
  • March 27/31
  • April 20/30
  • May 26/31
  • June 22/30
  • July 6/6
  • this week 7/7
  • Previous Total 142/181
  • Total: 149/188
  • Percentage = 79.26 %

At this rate I might get to the mid eighties before year end! I hope you all get to set and keep your goals for your Stitching Time and join Kate. 😁

Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash. If I can plan a trip to the studio I expect my stash to be reduced terrifically when I start making backings for all of the quilt tops I’ve got to do. 😁

  • Fabric Used: 1 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Previous Balance: 67 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this year: 0 yards
  • Balance in stash to use this year: 66 yards

* my goal is to lessen my stash by 100 yards this year. I haven’t managed to actually figure out how much fabric I really have in my stash, but I have reduced my stash these past few years and only purchase fabric if I need it for a particular project. If I do purchase fabric I add it to my Balance in stash to use this year in order to continue reducing my stash. 😉

* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!

Design Wall Mondays

Judy, at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts, hosts a linky party for “Design Wall Mondays” every week.

I’m including some photos of my project bins filled some of the fun little blocks, bits and pieces and fabric that Denise sent to me, and my orphan blocks and fabric from my stash, that I’m working playing with to come up with some new quilts for an upcoming charity event;

PHD in 2024

This year you can join the fun and challenge at Ms P Designs USA 😉

Updated my list, but I’m thinking some things are missing/not recorded?

Thank you for stopping by and reading my post. Your comments make my day and I do reply to each one. 😉 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. Five months is a long wait, so I’m sorry to hear that. You could also play with some improv, since there is less precision involved. It could satisfy the urge to make and finish a quilt? Anyway, stay cool, you two!

  2. So sorry it’s going to take that long to get a consult. That seems outrageous. But I know when I needed to see a dermatologist back at the beginning of April, the earliest appointment I could get with a doctor was at the end of July. I ended up seeing a PA the next week and have already finished treatment. It’s just nuts!

    1. Thanks Kate. I know our medical system is overwhelmed but I think they should at least get me in for a consult sooner! Then see how bad my vision really is and triage my case. I’m glad you were able to get your treatment sooner. Fingers crossed I might get that lucky. 🤞🏻
