PQ 15.2 Sky Color

What fun to have another Challenge by Trish from Quilt Chicken in the annual Project Quilting Challenge being hosted by Kim of Persimmon Dreams

Trish challenged us this week:

“I am not limiting you to landscape or skyscape depictions this week: you may use your sky colors in abstract, in any kind of project you wish to make. But I’d like to see and hear your connection to the sky’s palette in your completion and posts. Those connections are one of my favorite parts of Project Quilting!

RULE ONE: TAKE INSPIRATION FROM THE COLORS OF THE SKY, BUT EXCLUDE OR USE LESS THAN 10% OF THE USUAL BLUE.”

This week’s challenge was a fun one! Once I read the post I started looking at some photos of our evening sky for inspiration:

As you can see here in the mountains of British Columbia, our evening/night skies are incredible!

This challenge was going to inspire me to use techniques I don’t often do so out came pencil and paper to do some planning. Fabrics were pulled and I began to play.

I did some very poor improv piecing using colours I see in our night sky and of course it’s winter here so I needed to add a pop of white. It’s a little off kilter but will work on my sewing table just fine! My mug rug from last year’s Project Quilting was worn out so I needed a new one 😃 The space on my sewing table where I keep my mug rug is to the right of my machine right beside my threadcatcher/pin cushion and in front of my basket of tools and my thread stand. I only have about 4 3/4 sq. “ there so I tried to make this fit and it does. It’s not quite square but imperfectly perfect suits me just fine.! 😉

I did enjoy this challenge but know that I need to start reading more books and watching more videos to try to figure this improv technique out. I think I’m too trained to try to have perfect points and matching seams 😉

Thanks for stopping by to see my project. I enjoy your visits and do appreciate and respond to every comment. 😃 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. A very fun mini project for the prompt. Love the colors, you nailed those. I can’t do improv, my scientist brain has to have order, random anything is hard for me. So good for you for giving it a go.
