Sunday Summary #152

I’d like to wish you all a Happy New Year. I can only hope 2024 will be one that for all of you is filled with laughter, family fun, good health and prosperity.

This will be my last post for the year so I’ll try to get it posted soon. I can say that 2923 can’t end too soon for me. In keeping with the highs and lows of the year, it ended with a couple of final kicks.

I have had the addition of another caregiving job to my list. One of DH’s friends of 30 plus years was in a bike accident in October resulting in plates, pins and screws being installed and treatment for severe burns beginning. When they were doing the initial investigation of his injuries they discovered a tumour in T’s throat. He has just finished 6 weeks of radiation and the prognosis is good. He is now back home, still in a wheelchair and has no family, so I get to take him to town for medical appointments, banking, grocery shopping, etc. Luckily our car is a hatchback so it’s easier to get the wheelchair in and out at each of our stops.

On Christmas Eve my son’s best friend lost his battle with cancer, leaving a young son and daughter, a loving family and so many friends heartbroken. This young man always seemed like one of my own; the kids were always back and forth at each other’s homes. We used to joke that they didn’t even know who their flesh and blood families were since they were all so close.

On the other side of things, my son and his family from Mexico were in Alberta for the holidays so my sons were able to commiserate with each other when they heard of their friends passing.

D has fully recovered from her last surgery and is getting out and about more.

My DH has been having more issues, but he is looking forward to golf season. Since we have no snow he might get his wish even earlier than normal 🤞🏻

So all I can say is 2023 is now finally over and I’m looking forward to a fresh start tomorrow.

And now, it’s time for the important stuff, my lists!

My Last To-Do Goals:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and leader/ender projects as time and my foot/ankle allow. No real progress 😢

2. Keep working on my Dresden blocks. Just need to add sashing. Sashing is now cut and sewing has begun! 😁

3. Get caught up with the Rainbow Neighbourhood QAL hosted by Sandra Walker from MMM Quilts. I’d love to get this one done. No progress 😢

4. Allow myself to keep playing on a couple of projects from the boxes of treasures I received from Denise as my leader/ender projects. I have a plan for some of these beauties! 😁

Leader and ender projects have begun with all this scrappy goodness 😉

5. Start working on my projects for upcoming blog hops; I started one with a lovely, textured piece of white cotton that I’ve been saving for a special project and what Canadian can’t think of a loving Moose themed project! 😉

6. Start planning for one of my favourite events of the year: I haven’t decided on my centre block, but do have several options. 😁

7. Get caught up on my year end blog posts and reading blogs. Making progress on this one! 😁

8. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿. Didn’t happen! I just realized Project Quilting Season 15 should be starting January 7th!

This Week’s goals:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and leader/ender projects as time allows.

2. Keep working on my Dresden blocks and try to get it finished to flimsy stage. 🤔

3. Get caught up with the Rainbow Neighbourhood QAL hosted by Sandra Walker from MMM Quilts.

4. Allow myself to keep playing on a couple of projects from the boxes of treasures I received from Denise as my leader/ender projects.

5. Keep working on my projects for upcoming blog hops;

6. Start planning for one of my favourite events of the year:

Hosted by the amazing Quilting Gail

7. Pull my fabric selections for Project Quilting Season 15 projects and get ready to make a quilt in a week. 😁

8. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me🐿🐿🐿🐿

Stitchin’ Time

Kate from Life in Pieces hosts a weekly linky party to help us keep to our goals of stitching every day.

I’m trying for at least 30 minutes a day this year, but life had other plans for me.. If I’m lucky I might get my percentage up to 50% for the year!

  • January 31/31
  • February 28/28
  • March 31/31
  • April 23/30
  • May 24/27
  • June 13/24
  • November 15/30
  • December 17/31
  • this week 5/7
  • Previous Total 171/358
  • Total: 176/365
  • Percentage = 48.2 %

With the way this year has gone I can say I’m actually quite pleased with my stats! 😁

Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash.

  • Fabric Used: 2 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Previous Balance: 14 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this year: 3 yards
  • Balance in stash to use this year: 12 yards

* my goal is to lessen my stash by 100 yards this year and even though I was close, I didn’t quite make it. 🤞🏻 maybe next year. I haven’t managed to actually figure out how much fabric I really have in my stash, but I have reduced my stash these past few years and really only purchase fabric if I need it for a particular project. If I do purchase fabric I add it to my Balance in stash to use this year in order to continue reducing my stash. 😉

* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!

PHD in 2023

Quilting Gail was hosting PHD in 2023 Challenge but I heard a rumour from a very reliable source that someone else will be doing it this year. 😉

Thank you for stopping by and reading my post. Your comments make my day and I do reply to each one. 😉 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. Carol, you have such a big heart, caring for all your friends, and friends of friends. I’m so sorry about the loss of your son’s friend, that is really hard, especially at this time of year. So hugs to you. I hope that 2024 will be one of more highs than lows! Love the family photo!

    1. Thank you Wendy. It does seem to be my lot in life to help when I have the chance. At this point in my life I expect that losing loved ones will happen. It just seems to unfair when it’s a young person. 2024 is starting perfectly; conversations either family and friends and time with my machine! I can only hope your year is starting as well 🤗

  2. Happy New Year to you! I am sorry to hear about the death of your son’s (and family) friend and the injury & illness of your husband’s friend. You are special taking care of him. Such good news that DH is recuperating and hopes that your ankle heals quickly. It has been a tough 2023 but the hope of a new year and the sun rising each day holds promise. Best wishes for 2024.

  3. Sounds like the holiday was rough and tough in a few instances. Hopefully your friend will heal quickly now that chemo is over. Your metrics look good. Some years you just have to do what you can and hope for better next year. Good luck with all your plans for 2024, hopefully it won’t be as full of non-planned things as 2023 was.

    1. Thank you Kate. 2023 WAS a year, wasn’t it? I’m being optimistic that 2024 will be a good one for all of us, but haven’t had time to do any planning yet. Maybe this week 😆
