Sunday Summary #146

I think I should be allowed to take a vacation from real life. Crazy things just keep happening!

This week’s adventure started at our Golf Course Board Meeting. We were waiting for a couple of Board members to arrive when the Clubhouse Manager and her husband came to our table. The discussion got out of hand and the Manager and her husband walked off the job. It’s a week that had some group events, so I had to step in since the staff was left with no manager and we were two bodies short? I rapidly re-learned everything I used to know (from when I was eighteen) on hotel/restaurant management to handle it. Even though we were still short staffed the crew stepped up and I’ve only been working 10-12 hours a day. 😳

Needless to say my sewing time has suffered but I can still share some finishes (finally) that happened in the past week and a half!

Last goals:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and leader/ender projects. No progress. 😢

2. Keep working on my Dresden blocks. No progress 😢

3. Get caught up with the Rainbow Neighbourhood QAL hosted by Sandra Walker from MMM Quilts. Some progress 😁

4. Finish my projects for the next Sew-It Show-It Challenge, When Pigs Fly, being hosted by Joan from Moosestash Quilting, and get my post written. Done and posted here!😁

5. Allow myself to keep playing on a couple of projects from the boxes of treasures I received from Denise. Some progress! 😁

6. Work on my project for the July Sew It – Show It Challenge, Picnic Party, hosted by Carol from Just Let Me Quilt. Some progress 😁

7. Start planning a project for the next Sew It – Show It Challenge, It’s a Dog’s Life. Some progress. Project is planned 😁

8. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me. 🐿🐿🐿🐿 Sam didn’t have a chance this past week. I was just too busy to listen to her chatter. 😉

This Week’s goals:

1. Keep working on my EPP, embroidery and leader/ender projects.

2. Keep working on my Dresden blocks.

3. Get caught up with the Rainbow Neighbourhood QAL hosted by Sandra Walker from MMM Quilts.

4. Allow myself to keep playing on a couple of projects from the boxes of treasures I received from Denise as my leader/ender projects.

5. Work on my project for the July Sew It – Show It Challenge, Picnic Party, hosted by Carol from Just Let Me Quilt.

6. Start planning a project for the next Sew It – Show It Challenge, It’s a Dog’s Life.

7. Do not let Samantha or any of her squirrel buddies side track me. 🐿🐿🐿🐿

Studio To – Do List

1. When I get back to the studio make quilting my Roll of the Dice quilt the priority and get the binding put on. No progress 😢

2. Finish my second Heading North quilt, designed by Sandra of MMM Quilts which I left at the studio. No progress 😢

3. Work on the last binding that needs to be hand stitched when I get back to the studio.  No progress 😢

4. Finish my DWR which is on the frame. Finished and on my bed! 😁

5. Finish squaring up and binding this panel quilt. Its a finish and posted on June 19th for the When Pigs Fly Sew It- Show It Challenge Blog Hop. 😁

Stash Report

I like to link with Donna @ QuiltPaintCreate to keep track of fabric in and out of my stash.

  • Fabric Used: 6 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Previous Balance: 46 yards
  • Fabric Purchased this year: 3 yards
  • Balance in stash to use this year: 40 yards

* my goal is to lessen my stash by 100 yards this year. I haven’t managed to actually figure out how much fabric I really have in my stash, but I have reduced my stash these past few years and really only purchase fabric if I need it for a particular project. If I do purchase fabric I add it to my Balance in stash to use this year in order to continue reducing my stash. 😉

* any fabric used from the scrap bins, was gifted or a prize; doesn’t count as stash!

PHD in 2023

Quilting Gail is hosting her PHD in 2023 Challenge again this year. 😉

Thank you for stopping by and reading my post. Your comments make my day and I do reply to each one. 😉 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. Well that is just unacceptable! I am sorry you had to step up and put in such long hours, but they are lucky to have you. Samantha will have a lot to say when you get back to sewing….be careful. Meanwhile, be kind to yourself as you are doing so much. I believe you need to schedule a staycation where you are off limits to anything you have not planned – whether it is sewing, or a lunch with a friend, or chilling at your favorite spot. Tell me the dates and stick to it, you will be grateful you did – you are on vacation no one can interrupt you (well except of course husband kids and grandkids).

    1. Thank you Kathleen for the wonderful advice! I’m heeding it already! Today is for me; reading and writing posts and emails; some sewing time and catching up on housework. Tomorrow is a town trip so I might need to visit a LQS for fabric therapy. 😁

  2. Kathleen has good advice! I’m sorry that you had to step up and log in so many hours at the Club, but like Kathleen said, they are fortunate to have you (and so are your friends!). I hope you enjoy some wonderful fabric therapy today!

  3. Wow, must have been quite a discussion – eeeek! Glad you were able to step up and keep things going. Hope you enjoyed it at least a little bit. Looks like you got quite a bit done in spite of long hours. I’m giving you a standing ovation! 😀

    1. Thank you Linda. The “discussion” was interesting to say the least. Yes I have been having fun relearning/remembering my first job. At 16 I started working in a hotel and the day after my 18th birthday they asked me to take over managing the hotel (360 person pub, 126 seat lounge, formal dining room, cafe and the hotel desk). Luckily we have several staff who have stepped up and are working hard to help me. I’ve managed to sort and clean both storage rooms, all of the freezers and the walk-in cooler this week and the girls have been so helpful with suggestions. Customers seem happy with the menu changes, too! Sewing has been perfect to allow me to think things through as I’m stitching. 🤗

      1. I worked in an office years ago that had to hire a “temp” when someone quit. She was a retired lady, and she was so personable and happy and efficient, she caught on quickly, and we loved her. Our boss BEGGED her to take the job she was temp-ing for, but she refused because she loved the freedom she had with temp-ing, and she and her husband loved to travel. I’ve often thought, since we retired, that I might like to do something like that, but then I regain my senses – lol!

      2. Hi Linda. I can so understand the lady’s point of you! I’m enjoying sorting things out, getting it all clean and organized, but I’m also looking forward to getting my retirement back! 😉 Sure hope you are doing okay.

  4. Oh my goodness! That sure dropped a lot of work into your lap! I do know the frustration of many things pulling you away from the quilt room (tho most of mine have been more fun!) but hang in there! Easier days are surely ahead!!

    1. Thank you Cheree. As long as the hours have been, it has been fun to come out of retirement and do a job I haven’t done since I was 20! My hubby says I must love him a lot to put in the time to keep our club going. Don’t tell him, but I just hate the thought of moving more! 😉

    1. I think the confrontation was worse because I’m a volunteer Board Member. Everything is clean, organized and a truckload is ready for the dump, so I’m assuming I will get some sewing time soon! 🤞🏻
