When Pigs Fly – My Day

The incredible Joan from MooseStashQuilting is the hostess for this month’s Challenge.

Projects in Grocery Sacks, Unfinished Objects, and Works in Progress; we’ve all got them! 😉

My goal for this challenge was to try to finish one of each of these fun acronyms. Did I make it? Let’s see:

A PIG- did not make it with this one with having to go out of town on an emergency trip and my PIGs are mostly stored in my To Be Quilted bins (there are 3 of them) along with their backing and bindings. 😢

UFOs;

I have not one but two finished here. I have to confess that most of my UFOs are stored in 3 large tote bins at the studio. They are finished flimsies waiting their turn on the longarm.

My first finish was a fun Winnie the Pooh baby quilt. I’m not sure what year I made the flimsy, but needed a quick baby quilt and I managed a trip to the studio.

The photo isn’t the greatest; the lighting was bad and I had to get this one washed and gifted after I finished the binding. 😁

My next UFO was started last year when Denise sent me a goodie box with orphan blocks, unfinished projects, fabric and block leftovers.

There was this lovely set of blocks all sewn together:

I have always wanted to do a Double Wedding Ring but was a bit intimidated by the design. It looked very complicated! Now I knew I needed to just jump in and do it. I didn’t have a cream coloured fabric so I needed to come up with a plan and had plenty of time to think about it while I was making the green arcs, which I was able to find a good variety of greens in my scrap and fat quarter bins. I did break in to my stash as well for the arcs and for the hst’s you see where the arcs converge. I decided that I needed to use a contrasting colour so auditioned several and finally decided on a soft grey. I really did have fun with this one and have to thank Denise for the inspiration to try something new to me!

The next delay was getting to the studio with a lot going on in my real life but finally I managed to take the next photo:

Finally on the frame!

Then I had to cut my studio visit short to deal with some things, but when I had to go to the Okanagan Valley to help a dear friend I was able to play with my Avante using a fun pantograph by Urban Elementz,, Funky Feathers.

I finished it off with a faux flanged binding and here it is on my bed. It’s the first time after all of my years quilting I have a quilt I made on my bed! 😉

I will admit that my painting by Corey Hardeman did influence my colour choice.Now I just need to finish the pillow shams!

I do have several WIPs going but decided that I would concentrate on my To Be Quilted stash for my next project.

I love this quilt because I didn’t lose my points!

This was a QAL that Cheryl from Meadow Mist Designs hosted from July 2019 – April 2020. I was able to keep up with this one and even managed to join the linky parade at the end of it with my finished flimsy.

It’s not a finish yet but the binding is made and ready to put on! 😁

For a final peek in to the way I seem to work, here are some of my other projects that I am actually working on now;

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. Your Double Wedding Ring is gorgeous, Carol! And, you did great with almost three unfinished projects tackled and off your list! I bought some vinyl project bags years ago from Quilt in a Day and that’s what I keep my WIPs stored in…or either those plastic cases that hold scrap booking paper. I have a lot of those! LOL

  2. Oh my goodness, you hit the “fabulous finishes” jackpot with all your projects. I love that double wedding ring quilt. Like you, I have put making one on the back burner, because they look so complicated. I’m glad you have that beautiful finish for your bed now. Urban Elementz is my favorite place to shop for quilting designs. You have some great works in progress, I can’t wait to see them when your done!

    1. Thank you Joan for a challenge that has me finishing up some projects and getting a quilt on my bed (finally). There’s more to this story but I’ll have to leave it for another day. 😉

  3. It sounds like this blog hop spurred you on to dig out some UFOs and make some progress on them! That’s always a good thing. The Double Wedding Ring quilt turned out beautifully and how fun to have it on your bed now. I love the Mosaic Mystery quilt, too – you’re almost there!

  5. Love the choices you made to work on and finish for this hop. I’ve never seen that particular pattern for doing a double wedding ring, it’s really wonderful and looks terrific on your bed. Sleep well.

  6. Great finishes, I love the double wedding ring. I too have never made a quilt for my own bed. Hopefully I will finish the one I started later this year.

    1. Thank you Karrin. Most of my friends have several quilts for their bed and change them with the seasons. They were a bit shocked to know my bed was naked! Hopefully you can finish yours, and even keep it! 😉

    1. Thank you Charlene. It has been busy here but I really do sleep at night. In fact I slept from 11:30 last night until 4:30 this morning, but I can sleep in tomorrow until 7:00 😉 lol

  7. Some great finishes and near finishes. Urban Elementz does make some great quilting pantos. I don’t have as many as I’d like, but then my machine isn’t working, either. =)

      1. Ha, ha, over two years now! But I think I know what’s wrong. It’s just getting someone to come out here and fix it … and figure out how to pay for it. It’ll all work out eventually. It could be that I can move things off-center and use the further right end of the machine. I have cleared it off, and need to clean it and then try that.

  8. Wow, you have been very busy and top marks for all your finishes. I must admit to a fear of the Double Wedding Ring quilt too – yours is lovely!
