When Joan announced the hop and I thought of jumping in, I thought fall, falling, falling for you…..it would be such an easy theme! So many choices to pick from!

The first thing I did was look for fall fabrics in my stash. It’s not hard with our leaves changing colours to find inspiration in colours.

I had pulled these fabrics to do a pattern test but knew that some of them would not work for the test but would for the hop! 😉

Then a squirrel started working on me with an idea that just wouldn’t go away. So a DrEAMI had come to be!

I had been having fun in the past couple of months playing with this pattern:

I had made two different versions of the quilt just because I love stars and this pattern was so much fun.

Being able to use smaller, leftover pieces of focal fabric for the star points made me smile.

But then I thought “what if I made it with fall fabrics?”

So here is version #3 of Let Your Star Shine:

Now this was the first part of my DrEAMI project. I wanted a new table topper for my table, but as importantly, I wanted the cutoffs from making the star points to use with the leftover blocks from a recent pattern test. My table topper is in the bin to go to the studio to quilt and I’ll be using it before this month ends.

Since the beginning of the pandemic I’ve made it my goal to work from my stash, use up scraps and only purchase when I absolutely had to.

This has kept me busy making quilts for Victims of the horrific wildfires we have been seeing, quilts for friends who contracted Covid and now a good friend who needs a lap quilt (and I sent the original one I had made to the Quilts for Lytton Drive), since he is now confined to a wheelchair. Our friend is a true Shining Star. He is always helping people and gives generously of his time and money when some one needs it. He loves to say he is always falling for the stories someone tells of a need they have. So this is my I’m Falling For You project using leftover bits and orphan blocks.

It looks as if I made an oops, but I’m putting a pocket on the inside for his phone and wallet so there needs to be a distinct top and bottom so everything doesn’t fall out of the pocket! 😉

This just needs a slim border but I’m checking to see which of my fabric is large enough to back and bind the quilt. Then I will decide on the border and it will be quilted and bound once our elections are over and I can plan a trip to the studio to spend some quality time with my longarm.

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  2. What a lovely pattern. All of the quilts are beautiful. I “try” to use my stash but it is so hard sometimes! I am also currently challenging myself to use my mountain of orphan quilt blocks too!

  4. You have fallen hard for “Let your Star Shine” and executed 3 beauties of it too. I am with you on the stash busting during covid and have found a new interest in shopping my stash at home. Who knew I had so much! LOL!!!!
    Your a rock star for sharing your talents with so many in need and I know each and every one appreciates it so much.

  5. Hi Carol! Aww, what a sweet blog post and a fabulous quilt top. I knew or suspected you were making a version of Let Your Star Shine in Fall-ish colors but the wonderful story behind the quilt makes it all the better to share. Of course, I think the pattern and fabrics you chose are fab!   7. This is a beautiful star and each of the fabrics give it a totally different feel. I love your fall star! I always think I’m going to use stash only, but I fail miserably at it…you’re very inspiring with how you use your stash. Thank you for sharing!

    1. Thank you for your sweet comment. I think Sandra hit the ball out of the park with this wonderful pattern. The trick to being able to use up my stash is living where I have to drive 2 hours to get to my favourite LQS I think! 😉

    1. Hi Colette. It’s such a fun quilt to make and works for table toppers, baby quilts, wall hangings and can easily be enlarged. I just love it to use those special little pieces of fabric. 😄

  15. Well, finally I’m here. I saw you’d made a THIRD one (fist pumping and doing a happy dance here), but haven’t had a chance to get around to many blogs since I’ve been busy updating another older pattern. 🙂 I just love what you’ve done with all of them, and I, too, am needing to figure out what to do with the cut-offs as I hate waste. Thank you for promoting my pattern and shop!

    1. Hi Sandra. I think I’m addicted to this pattern. I keep finding just the right sized piece of favourite fabrics for the star points and next thing I know, I’m making another one! It’s easy to promote a well written, fun to make pattern. 😉
