I Like Thursday

I’m so happy to be able to share another I Like post this week. It means things are quieting down and my life is getting back to normal and I’ll have more time to do the things I love; reading and writing blogs, sewing and sewing some more.

I like the frosty mornings here.

This was our first hard frost of the year. It’s probably 2-3 weeks behind normal but I’ll take it. It means I’ll have enough time in the next couple of weeks to winterize and get the carport up before the snow starts to fall.

I like watching our Weather network forecasts to see what our winters will be like. It’s too funny this winter; they say now that we will either get a El Niña or El Nino weather. The ocean currents and blobs haven’t yet decided what we will get. Guess it will be a mystery and we will take it any way it comes. I just know I like going out for my walks and hearing the children laughing and shrieking as they go tobogganing down the slopes and hills on our golf course. Luckily the best slides are on the rough!

This is what my view will be in just a few weeks; maybe less!

I like reading in the evening for a half hour or so before I go to bed. I try to stay away from screens so it’s good old fashioned paper books for me at night. I am not particular about what I read so friends often drop off books and then pick through mine. It’s like having our own lending library here in the valley.

We have libraries in both larger towns an hours drive south. The best thing is there is a mini library in the nearest village (12 km away). You can drop off your library books there for return to the larger libraries and have access to the online libraries, which is where I get my audiobooks that I listen to most of the day. It keeps me distracted from the incessant remote/channel flipping DH does so I don’t get annoyed with him about it. At present I’m going through and enjoying all of the audiobooks from David Baldacci. 😆

We also have an incredible library at our Guild and our librarian is always welcoming new suggestions for books.

Our Guild Members subscribe to every type of fiber art you can think of; from basketry (one member teaches how to make willow coffins) to weaving, spinning to dyeing, knitting to quilting. Any craft you can think of, one at least of our members does it. I like the way our members share and teach their skills. We have Members Days where we can attend and learn a new skill, or just work at a craft with like minded people. It’s affordable, too! A Toonie in the tin gets you entrance. If we are using Guild supplies (eg. dye or roving we add another Loonie to the tin). Once in a while we have classes and on those occasions when we bring an Instructor it, our members can attend for $15.00 for the whole day. We also have an equipment lending library (weaving looms, wool carders, sewing machines, and spinning wheels to name a few). Often when our members borrow equipment it comes back in better shape than when it was borrowed! One member wanted to borrow an Indian Spinner. When she brought it back it had been oiled, guides replaced and even new belts put on it. I really appreciate the members of our Guild; knowing they like and respect our Guild and care for equipment as if it was theirs.

LeeAnna’s post suggestion for the week is “what dish would you take to a fall gathering? or which dish at a fall gathering would you reach for first?”

I don’t often go to dinners since my DH isn’t very social any more. He likes to stay home. The only time I need to make dishes to share is when our Guild has a potluck. A lot of our members specialize in sweets so I only make a sweet once in a while; either a triple layer lemon cheesecake or a chocolate or turtle cheesecake. I usually share savouries; a cheese tray with 5 or 6 of my favourite cheeses, an artichoke and Asiago dip with homemade Naan or Roti bread, homemade antipasto or tapenade with a variety of crackers. I just realized there is a theme to my dishes; cheese! 😆

In return I usually head for the vegetable or more specifically the salad section of our potluck spreads. I like vegetables in any form and look forward to trying new ways to have them. It’s always fun to try new dishes and then find out who made it and try to bribe them for their favourite recipes. 🤣

I like the fact that Oct 15 is my birthday. It’s the perfect time of year; not too close to any other family celebrations. This year it started with a lovely text chain of messages with my youngest son on Oct. 14. He’s working in Saudi Arabia and was in Dubai so there’s a time difference to deal with. Then in the morning I received calls and messages from my children, my grandchildren and even the oldest great grandchildren. I had to go to the Guild to deal with a malfunctioning heat pump. I like the fact that I was able to fix it by checked the control settings which someone had set wrong. The rest of my day was spent volunteering at the golf club where several members and friends stopped by for visits. The chef in the restaurant made me a special not on the menu dish; a wonderful chicken curry and then desert;

Cinnamon Bun Cheesecake 🤤

Don’t forget to head over to LeeAnna’s blog Not Afraid of Color to see what every one else is sharing with their I Like posts.

So I’ll end my post with another year ending or beginning and my wish that you all are having great weeks and are enjoying life as much as I am. 🤗 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.
