One of my favourite designers,, Sandra Walker from MMM Quilts emailed me that she was publishing a new pattern and wouldd I like to test her pattern for one of the bonus baby quilt patterns she was adding in to her original pattern which had been published in McCalls Quilting in 2019. Of course I said yes since I always enjoy doing Sandra’s patterns and QAL’s.
This pattern is on sale until Saturday for 25% off 🤣
It also has two additional baby quilt patterns added in.

Rose from Something Rose Made made two versions of the small quilt;

It just so happened that I had just been asked to make a baby quilt for a cute couple. They chose not to find out the sex of the baby and have a rainbow filled nursery of vibrant colours. I asked Mom to pop over and see if anything in my stash grabbed her fancy.

Once she chose the focal fabric she left the rest up to me since I had seen the nursery. There is red, several blues, pink, yellow, several greens, and cream in the room as well as one burgundy feature wall which might get a mural painted on it soon. I think I had fabric to match every shade of paint except the green. My green fabrics were all just the wrong shades. 😉
I had fun auditioning fabrics and only spent 2 hours cutting the fabrics which are a real variety from my stash. Since the pattern is so well written, I never had to use Jack, except to separate my chain pieced blocks. 😁
I didn’t think to keep track of my time, but it worked up quickly! it’s finished size is 38 1/2” square.

Now Mom is popping over tomorrow to see if this is big enough or if she wants it to be larger. Then I’ll either enlarge it or get it ready to be quilted since I should be heading to the studio next week to help D. with a couple of jobs before the snow starts falling.
This project really is a true DrEAMI project since it was a quick turnaround on the test and there is a baby due in two weeks!
As I was publishing this post, Wendy from Pieceful Thoughts of My Quilting Lufe was listing her version of the pattern. Just look at Singing the Blues;

Don’t forget that the sale ends on Saturday so pop over and grab your copy of Lilac Love. It’s got the queen size Lilac Love pattern and two bonus baby quilt patterns for Fall Fair (or as Rose and Sandra refer to them Boomer Blankets).
Thank you for stopping by to visit and check out Sandra’s newest pattern release. 😉 Carol

That focus fabric is really fun, you used it well in the final quilt.

Thank you Kate. It was a last piece of a fabric I liked so I’m glad to use it in such a great project.

Thanks Wendy. It was too much fun that you published your post just as I was getting ready to public mine so I was able to include your beautiful version in my post. 🤗

Wow that baby quilt is so rich! I love how the bud blocks in the corners of the borders have a transparency effect when you first look at the quilt. Isn’t that always the way with a colour (like your issue with your greens). Thank you for making one of the quilts and for making it so quickly! Can’t wait to see it quilted up!
