My May PHD Check In

The end of the month means it’s time to check in with our friend, Gail from Quilting Gail to see how we are all doing with our PHD Goals for the year.

I’m not quite sure how but I haven’t checked in since March so I’m going to make sure I get this one written and scheduled to post on time! 😉

My starts and finishes, or finished to flimsies since March:

This is the one UFO off my list:

This is one of three quilts I made from a pattern, Let Your Star Shine, by Sandra Walker of MMM Quilts ( link to the pattern is here). The pattern calls for the baby quilt/wall hanging to finish at 36 1/2” square. I needed it to be larger so I added more borders to have it finish at 42 1/2” square. I had so much fun quilting this one, doing some stitch in the ditch, ruler work and straight line quilting. I used a Hobb’s batting and Lavender Essential Thread (from Connecting Threads) and really do like the way it finished up; still cuddly and soft since I didn’t do dense quilting all over. I was going to save it for the When Pigs Fly Blog Hop, but I was too excited to finally have a UFO finished 😉

So while I only finished one UFO on my list, I did manage to not add any more so far to my UFO List.

Finally a change in my numbers! 😉

I’m really hoping that I can meet the challenge and get my PHD in 2023. I can’t thank our friend, Quilting Gail for coming up with such a fun challenge to help us finish those UFOs and WIPs.

Thank you for stopping by and sharing some of your time with me. 😉 Carol

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  1. I absolutely LOVE the quilting on your “Let Your Star Shine.” And, I agree, it’s a great pattern!
You are doing well with you PHD in 2023!!! There’s still lots of time left in the year!
Since you showed us one finished UFO, I’m assuming that you’ll have another finished for the “When Pigs Fly” blog hop! LOL!!
Thanks for linking to PHD in 2023 May Report!

    1. Thanks Gail. I’m getting braver with the rulers and having with the quilting. I’m working on other UFO’s once I’m finished with D at the hospital and back at the studio. I’m hoping to have at least one more finished when I go home 😉

  2. Hi Carol! LOOK at the quilting on this lovely piece. WOWEE. Your ruler work is fantastic. I can only hope to give that a try someday (when we’re brave enough to leave pantos behind). You have finished so many PHD projects. Great job. {{Hugs}} a bunch!! ~smile~ Roseanne
