Scrap Fabric Fun Blog Hop

Mel from The Quilting Room With Mel is hosting a fun hop that shows us great new ways or projects to use up our scraps. Any quilter has scraps and using those leftover bits can bring a warmth of the memories of past quilts and projects.

For my project I had a pile of leftover bricks (those pieces of cut in half charm squares) some of which had been gifted to me by Denise, and stones (2 1/2” squares).

The simplest way to use them up was to take the piles of each and sew them together (one of each).

I then started sewing them in sets, alternating the hst’s from one side to the other.

Then those sets were sewn in to blocks of 4 which measured out to 8 1/2” x 7 1/4”.

The blocks were then sewn into 8 strips. I decided on using some leftover yardage from another project to make 2 1/2” sashing strips and an outside border.

This was one of those mindless sewing/leader-ender projects that was a finished flimsy before I knew it. Once it was together I thought of those lovely two sided zippers that you use for parkas.

Once again, however, this flimsy along with backing and a scrappy binding are folded up and stored in a TBQ bin patiently waiting it’s turn to be finished on the longarm. After having one of my great granddaughter pass away at the age of 2 unexpectedly, I’m not up to doing any quilting right now. Instead this top will be donated to Quilts For Survivors as part of my H2H donations.
