In The Woods a Pattern by Gail Sheppard

At the beginning of October I noticed that Gail from Quilting Gail had written some new patterns so I offered to do some testing for her.

I printed the pattern read the directions and then started checking for fabric in my stash.

I found this one, Glengarry Manor by Deborah Edwards of Northcott Fabrics, and knew it had to be my focal fabric.

Then I decided to use a bit of yardage for some of the background and scraps for the rest of the blocks. I had so much fun pulling bits from the scrap bin and 3 fat quarters to make a bit more constant in the colorways. Then a few strips were chosen from my strip scrap bin and I had a few precursors leftover 2 1/2” squares from the same fabric in the scrap box.

With a few delays because of some scheduled event in my real life, I didn’t manage to finish the test flimsy until October 23rd.

I deliberately didn’t keep the star centre’s all aligned one way. This quilt is for my great granddaughter who is an insomniac at 3. It’ll give her something to look at while she is laying in bed; not sleeping to figure out if there is a pattern to my irregularity. 😉

Finished size of the quilt is 50” x 66”. It can easily be enlarged by adding extra blocks or making the borders wider.

Did I enjoy making this quilt? Yes

Will I make this again? Yes

Was the pattern clear and easy to follow? Yes

Would I recommend this pattern to one of my students who have only made one or two quilts? Yes

Gail wrote the pattern and made the quilt to be featured in the Island Batik catalogue featuring the Evergreen and Pine fabric collection by Kathy Engel. You can read about it HERE and get the pattern information on that link.

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.
