My Turn on the Ghastly Ghouls Blog Hop

Thank you to Carol from Just Let Me Quilt for hosting the spooky Ghastly Ghouls Blog Hop this month.

I had to jump in to do this hop once I realized it would fit in with a project I’ve had in mind for some of my grandkids and great grandkids.

Fabrics were pulled and some cutting and pressing, interfacing and sewing began.

Bag fronts were fun with some free hand appliqué shapes being attached and the kids initials were put on the bags so the kids (heaven forbid) would not get their bags mixed up. I always chuckle because the littles gather round their pile of goodies and trade their not-so-favourite Hallowe’en treats with each other trying to get more of the goodies they like! 😉

It took a few days to do the appliqué work using the stitches on my machine in a black thread to define the shapes. then I boxed the bottom seams, added my lining. Here they are all lined up just waiting for the lining to be stitched down and handles attached. Then all that’s left to do it some embellishment for the eyes.

Just a word of advice; double check your appliqué placement so the initials are better placed than mine! 😉

The handles are going on when I am teaching at my Guild on Thursday and being mailed on Friday. I’ll update my post with the finishes as the parcels are better GM readied for mailing

Next year I will make bags for the two youngest great granddaughters. They are too young to be out trick or treating this year with Covid still being rampant in their part of the world their Mom says. Here’s hoping that next year will see them able to take part in a tradition that has long been part of our lives.

  3. My siblings and I would do the same thing your grandchildren do. We would trade our goodies. When I was younger I loved snickers and my sister loved milky ways so we always traded those. It’s funny how tastes change because strangely now I am not a big snickers fan. Your personalized goodie bags are adorable and I love the free hand applique.

    1. Thank you Julia. My favourite was always the taffy kisses. My siblings didn’t like them so they always though they were getting the better part of the deal when they changed 10 kisses for one chocolate bar. 😉

  6. Hi Carol! Cute, cute, CUTE!! And what a fabulous idea. Geez. Now I know what I need to make for next year. I went the easy route this year and picked up cute buckets from the Dollar store – what a cop out, now that I think of it. HAHA! Oh yes, trading candy is a BIG part of trick or treating. Our littles will only be going to our house, gamma’s, and GG’s. We’ll have to make the haul worthwhile! We picked up bubbles and chalk instead of all candy.   7. Those are such fun bags and even more special to your grandkids because you made them. I love how you put initials on them because we wouldn’t want them to mix up who’s candy belongs to who. That would be disastrous! LOL Thank you for sharing this sweet idea with us, Carol!

  16. These treat bags are awesome, Carol!! I think your littles will absolutely love them! Mine still have some of the ones I either made or embroidered their initials on for them through the years! How fun!!
