This past few weeks has had me playing with scraps quite a bit more than normal.
For anyone who has read my blog knows, I live in British Columbia, Canada. The past few years have had our wildfire season increasing and starting earlier. This year we experienced the most horrendous heat dome which saw our Province reeling under record setting high temperature. Then the town of Lytton burnt to the ground. Residents had 15 minutes notice to evacuate, with no possibility to grab anything but family members (some were not even able to gather their beloved fur babies). Then 2 Wildfires broke out within 10 miles of my home, coming within 2 miles, necessitating an Evacuation Alert being issued.
My time has been spent sewing scraps and running outside to watch the helicopters.
To date I have completed these quilt tops from my scrap bins, but I did have to cut yardage for sashing. I’m still considering the addition of borders but will finalize that decision when I get to the studio next week to get them on the longarm. These quilts will all go to the Quilts for Lytton Drive or any other place where wildfires have caused the loss of property for so many this year.
These quilts have no patterns. I just sewed and played around until I found a labout I liked, then added my sashing and/or borders.
There are a group of people who try to post each month to celebrate their Scrappy Fun for the month. They might not post every month since life can get in the way of our planned projects, but I always enjoy popping in to see what they’ve been up to.

You’ve made some lovely scrap quilts that are going to bring much comfort to families who have lost everything. Each one is so pretty, but the tic tac toe is my favorite, I think!

Quilts for Lytton is a wonderful project you are part of…love and hope for people whose posessions are gone, and whose memories need to start again with something positive.

So glad you have been safe so far! It’s been heartbreaking to hear of all the damage. Your scraps are fun and lively and will brighten the day of whoever ends up with the quilt of comfort.

Thank you Emily. It has been so hard to see fires, flooding, earthquakes and hurricanes causing so much damage to our planet this year so I’m doing what I can 😊
