My Day on It’s Cool to be Square Blog Hop

When I saw the announcement for this Blog Hop I knew I wanted to participate and even what I was going to make. It was predetermined!

Right?

Wrong!

I had my fabrics pulled and pattern printed. Then I’m not sure if it was Covid Brain or the squirrels visiting me again but things changed. 🥴

I had been cleaning out my scrap bin and using my Accuquilt cutter and dies. While I was doing that chore, fondling the bits and pieces, and remembering the other quilts I had made from those fabrics my mind started wandering and wondering.

I pulled out my treasured stash of batiks. Then I started calculating and playing:

and sewing and cutting some more:

Finally the blocks started to make me do a happy dance.

Borders are starting to go on.

I did have to adjust the size of the blocks for the borders since I had miscalculated my measurements. Finally I had a finished top and the sun cooperated today so I could get some outdoor pictures in spite of the wind.

“Boxed” my vision of our Covid Lockdown emotions.

So my blocks became boxes in boxes in boxes in boxes in boxes! Boxes are square so it fits with the theme of the hop and these past two + months have seen quite a few of us having crazy mood swings and feeling off kilter so the blocks had to be offset!

“Boxed” was born of my thoughts of what our lives have become under a world pandemic and wondering what life will be like in the next months and years while we recover and hopefully do not see more spikes and waves. 😷

This will be one of my donations for the Hands 2 Help Comfort Quilt Challenge 2020 hosted by Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.

I will be sending my quilts to Victoria’s Quilts Canada. They prefer to get flimsies, binding and an extra block to make a presentation bag with. They have a wonderful group of volunteers that take donated backing, batting and the top to quilt and finish it.

I have been fondling fabric and creating things with fabric and fiber for as long as I can remember. My children had homemade clothes, blankets, canning and quilts most of their lives. Now I create goodies to share! Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy making them! When I am not creating with fiber or fabric I keep busy with Dear Heart, kids, grandkids, great grandkids.

  4. What grand fun, to have those little bits and bobs lead you to making Boxed! I love it. The quilt has such a fun quality, with those little boxes dancing on the top! This will bring much comfort and joy to someone, Carol!

  6. Brain fog has definitely been a problem for most of us, but you pulled off an incredibly quilt in spite of it. I love all the batik colors and how they combined to make such a beautiful quilt. Thank you for sharing and being a cool blog hopper!

  8. You were my second stop on the Hop today. Gorgeous blocks sewn into your quilt top! Boxed, even off-kilter, totally fit the theme. What a wonderful donation for H2H, as well.

  13. Hi Carol! I love your interpretation of this pandemic in a quilt. Boxed is just so fitting especially with the off-kilter setting. I am certain someone will really enjoy this and it’s great that they take extra blocks to make a presentation bag. ~smile~ Roseanne

  15. Love all the colors in this! And it does kind of capture the feeling of being boxed in at home, with feelings ricocheting off the walls of layers of boxes. Great quilt!
